Koffing has a question.

How would one breed Lovely Kiss onto a Smoochum? According to White Cat, it can be done.

The question is how?

Ok, here's the scoop.

There are some moves that a Pokémon (according to the game's code) can learn through breeding, but, are impossible anyway!

For example, Snorlax can learn Lick & Charm through breeding, but, it is impossible for Snorlax to learn Charm anyway!

The following Pokémon are the only Pokémon who can learn Charm legally through any means (Breeding, Level Up, etc..)

Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybugg, Togepi, Togetic, NidoranFemale, Snubbul, Grandbull, Meowth, Eevee, and Ponyta.

Anyway, if I'm not mistaking, the only Pokémon above who learns Charm AND can Breed with a Snorlax is NidoranFemale, but, the only way to pass moves on is for the donor to be male right? [I think so]... so, anyway, getting Charm on Snorlax is impossible despite the fact the game's programming code allows it, there just isn't a legal means to use the code.

Back to your question, in Gold and Silver only (not Crystal) the code exists that allows Smoochum to learn Lovely Kiss through breeding. But, that is 100% pointless. Smoochum cannot learn Lovely Kiss through any means, here's why...

Smoochum is a baby Pokémon so it cannot breed with anything, so Smeargle won't work.
Jynx won't breed with Smeargle either.

Now you could try to mate two Jynx's, but, they are both female, and, it wouldn't work anyway, since Smoochum doesn't learn Lovely kiss Through level up, so, in other words Nintendo screwed you. Smoochum cannot learn Lovely Kiss at all, only Jynx and Smeargle can.

Actually, Smoochum can have Lovely Kiss legally. If you breed your Jynx with Ditto, and Jynx knows Lovely Kiss, you'll get a Lovely Kiss Smoochum, since egg moves can be passed thru Ditto breeding just like TMs and such. It's the same way you get Mach Punch on your Hitmontop even if there is no female Hitmontop to breed with.

negatory, mr. knef. ditto would have to learn lovely kiss, which it can't. dittos breeding with females produce offspring with no inherited moves. tyrogue only gets mach punch from hitmonchan and ditto because hitmonchan is male.

While you can't get Lovely Kiss on Smoochum, you can get whatever of Smoochum's moves on Jynx without sacrificing any of Jynx's moveset. All you need is Stadium 2.

To put it in slightly more readable English... If you wanted both Sweet Kiss and Lovely Kiss at the same time, all you need is to level Smoochum up, let it evolve, and use Stadium 2 to relearn Jynx's Lovely Kiss that it had missed. Jynx, Donphan, Sunflora, and anything else with varied movesets between its evolutions can get every one of their moves through Stadium 2. This is also how Hitmontop gets the likes of Pursuit and Focus Energy.

...Though, I suppose if you wanted it for Lv. 5 cup, you'd be sort of screwed.

Go ahead and shark a Smoochum with Lovely Kiss. !@#$, if Nintendo can give the computer opponent a Level 5 Porygon with Recover, you can teach Smoochum Lovely Kiss!

If the comp has a Lv. 5 Porygon with Recover, doesn't that mean it can breed down somehow? I don't think they'd go out and break the rules entirely... They tend to cheat by shagging with the random numbers, then blaming it on chance.

It's possible to get that Porygon. Here's how:

Play Red or Blue.

Make a lowercase "k" as one of the "Species Trigger Letters" in your name.

Use the Cinnabar Coast to bag yourself a high-level Porygon.

Put that R/B cart in Stadium 2, where it is read as a L100 (even though the cart still has it stored as a L140 or so).

Battle the E5 in Stadium 2.

After beating them all, access Move Restorer, select Porygon and choose to restore Recover.

Put it back on GB, and use Rare Candies to bring it past 140 (or whatever it was at), around 255, and finish at L5.

You now have a L5 Porygon with Recover, no Shark needed.

And Nintendo has just shown that there is nothing wrong with using Missingno. to obtain Pokemon.

When they made up movesets for Stadium 2, they obviously weren't checking them well enough.

There has been at least one report of a pokemon that the computer uses which has a moveset that would be impossible to actually have (even with Crystal). Two of the moves were breeding-only moves and it was impossible to get both of them on the same pokemon.

It looks like there's just been a few mistakes on the part of whoever designed the movesets for Stadium 2 and no one caught them during testing.

EDIT: Spelling and word choice
