I just battled PokéFan Jaime in Crystal (Route 39, only fights at night.)

After beating her, she said that she only fought with her Meowth at that spot at that time because it seemed to make her Meowth friendlier.

Is there any relevance to that? I know that Crystal keeps track of the locations and times where each Pokémon is caught. Is it possible that a Pokémon can gain happiness in Crystal by fighting when and where it was caught, or was that text just there to be there?

According to Pokefor, a Pokemon that levels up in the place where you caught/hatched/obtained it gets twice the Happiness increase.

Here is a little relevant information. BTW, Meowth346 told me this...

"When you catch a Pokémon, it stores the location/time/level data into two bytes."

The data is probably used when you visit the Pokemon Seer in Cianwood.

The data for a Pokémon's "home" is used by the Pokémon Seer, Stadium GS and in battles. The Pokémon Seer and Stadium GS tell you the same things, where it's from, at what level and at what time. In battles, it gets happier if you train it at it's "home" location. However, when a Pokémon hatches, it decides that place is it's home, so if you take Eggs to Mt. Silver to be hatched, then you're onto a good thing.
