Way I hear it, Meowth346 likes to use the Japanese terms for many, many things, though most everyone that refers to his site does not nor ever will know Japanese ^_^

I still like the coincidence that the Shiny Unowns (Shine/Letter determined by IVs) turned out to be the letters "I" and "V" ^_^

While some Japanse may call them that, I don't recall there being any official (from NCL or NOA) name for them. I could be wrong. I stick with "genes" because that makes the most intuitive sense, and fits with theme. Additionally, it isn't an acronym: anyone who sees that says "Oh, pokémon have genes. I wonder what the implications of that are? I'll look up more about them, but presumably they differentiate one pokémon from another, just as their real world equivalents might".

"IV" seems extremely medical, but has the pleasing propery of standing for individual value (right?), which makes sense as soon as someone tells you that.

"DV" is what I started out calling them long ago, because I hadn't heard any better options. When I heard "genes" I switched right over, because less obfuscation is better.

Of course Nintendo wouldn't let the fact of genes out. All the little kiddies would invest in Gamesharks if they hadn't already. Interact's shares would fly!

Absurd length? Poo.
