Just realized this. Couple of hours ago I was in the Slowpoke Well looking for King's Rocks. Then, a Slowpoke appeared...

RATICATE used THIEF!
It's super effective!
RATICATE stole KING'S ROCK from it's foe!
SLOWPOKE flinched!

Thief doesn't normally flinch, so it was because of King's Rock.

Meaning, if a Marowak with 254 Attack uses Thief in order to steal a Thick club from another Marowak, the damage would be calculated with the 518 attack, if I'm right.

So you're saying that the item is automatically attached to the Pokemon when it is stolen using Thief, and any bonuses of the item is automatically applied to the Pokemon.

But you're wrong, because Thief is based on Special Attack.

Meaning, if a Marowak with 254 Attack uses Thief in order to steal a Thick club from another Marowak, the damage would be calculated with the 518 attack, if I'm right.

Even if Thief was a physical Attack, the stolen Thick Club probably wouldn't double its power. If I understand OrientalNoodle's description right, the game does stuff in this order:

#1. Thief deals damage
#2. Marowak's Thick Club is given to the other Marowak
#3. The side effect of the attack/item (doubled attack) is applied

For OrientalNoodle to be right, the order would have to be:

#1. The game checks to see that Thick Club will be stolen, and applies its effect
#2. Thief deals damage (with Attack boost)
#3. Marowak's Thick Club is given to the other Marowak

That seems highly unlikely, and conflicts with the order of messages.

poccil: Well, it seems so.

Manuel Calavera: Err... Okay. I was just wondering what stat was Dark based on. But Stealing Black Glasses would give it the 10% boost if I'm right.

White Cat: That was the thing that surprised me. But the report I gave about the game is pointing to the direction that the game would do it's stuff in this order:

1. Check if the other pokémon has an item
2. Attach it to the Thieving pokémon
3. Do the attack (and calculate in the possible bonuses the item would give)
4. Give the messages "BLAHBLAH used THIEF!" and "BLAHBLAH stole ITEM from it's foe!"
