What factors can erase your game in R/B/Y and G/S? I know sharking. But can:

1)Trading or Mystery Gifting with a cheater?
2)Battling with a Cheater?
3)Knocking your game whilst playing restarting the game start screen?
4)Saving Pokémon on Pokémon Stadium (R/B/Y or G/S)?
5)Missingno

I am sure Missingno erases game data, but how long does it take it to erase your game?I would also like to know what other incidents, if any, that I do not know about, to be mentioned in your reply. Thank you!

I heard that turning off you game while it says: SAVING... DON'T TURN OFF THE GAME will sometimes corrupt the game data. Well being a evil person I am, I went to Wal-mart and tried doing this to the store's game. I tried 3 times:

1. Turned off game after it displayed the SAVING... DON'T TURN OFF THE GAME message for a second or so.
2. Turned off game just when it said: SA
3. Turned off game when it said SAVING... DON'T TUR

3 times, none of which corrupted the game. I would of done more trials, but I had to leave

I've used the Missingno. Glitch tons of times, and I have 255 hours on my Blue (too bad the time stops there), and I've never had the file lost. I also have a Jolteon and Sandslash at level 100. Heh. I've also saved the exact same Blue cart on Stadium during Doduo mode, and nothing happend. I can even use it w/o Stadium saying there's a problem w/ the transfer pack. Heh.
So, I doubt the game deletes itself over time. I've also dropped it while playing it and it reset itself. Scary. But it's still all there..

There's a thread about me turning on my Gb with my Blue cart in it, and the menu didn't say "Continue" just "New Name" or whatever. I quickly turned the bitch off. Somehow or another, when I turned my GB on, low and behold, it said Continue. I'm so lucky

geese's sliver decided to erase again yesterday while waiting to beat NOM.

We were doing mystery gifting with random ppl
he then tried to gift with someone else and it only said new game!!!???maybe we gifted with someone who cheater?

first time it happened it geese's sliver was on meg mem this is what happened:

backed up the file
there was something else on restore other than "geese sliver" it was "POKEMON" we thought cool someone else's file, restored it tried to continue no save file.tried to restore "geese sliver" nothing there-geese very pissed off,and now playing hardcore on SGB.

I also done something silly the other day as well-erased my yellow, luckly i cloned them all on stadium and blue, nothing was lost except a Jynx from gold which had to get trained up twice-3 days before the recent tour in Crystal palace and the other one.

Is it true that Silver Paks erase more often (and without cause) than Gold Paks?

The Missingno thing seems to be more luck-based than anything. Some people report doing it hundreds of times without problems, others have had it corrupt their game on the first try.

I wouldn't recommended messing with it, unless you have backups of your game.

What about Box Trick and that glitch where you catch Safari Zone Pokémon outside of the zone?

Nirvana: What about Box Trick...

The "Box Trick" doesn't do anything illegal or weird with memory. Read about the Box Trick here.

...and that glitch where you catch Safari Zone Pokémon outside of the zone?

Isn't that the same as the Missingno trick?

That's not a smartass answer, I'm really asking. I don't do the cheats, so I don't pay all that much attention to what each entails.

Incase anyone cares, I have pkmn yellow & I played it and made it to/past the Elite Four and one day I turned it on and my save data was gone. I had done no sharking to the game whatsoever, the data was just gone. So, I bought a mega memory card and started my yellow over. A mega memory card can be good as a little insurance policy incase you ever fear the loss of your game data (save game) But, do NOT count on it for 100%. Like, be hesitant to do massive restores, hacks, upload others games to it, always try to keep ONE file forever, even if it's from a while back. Anyway, take care, and remember, don't expect a MegaMemoryCard to be there to be the only holder of your save game, try to keep it on the catridge yourself & use the MegaMemoryCard in event of emergencies (but if u think u know what ur doing, have fun with it hehe)

Somewhat, yes. The glitch employed in the Safari Zone trick has the potential to get you a Missingno...however, only the Missingno itself can mess up the game. I once used the trick, surfing along Seafoam coast for over a half hour looking for a Tauros, and saw no Missingno.
The only mishap with my game after that actually had to do with the Tauros I caught...the game froze up while checking its stats. But then, that's happened before with other copies of the game...perhaps it was the SGB I was using...after all, after the freeze, I reset, and it didn't want to work until I took it out of the SNES.

But anyway, my copy of Red I was using is still perfectly fine...working off the same file since the game first came out, I might add. Of course, now it's just one of a stack of games I have now...2 Reds, one Yellow, one Blue, one Silver....

I was wondering about the most important one: Does battling a cheater erase your game?

I've heard that the messed-up Hall of Fame (and associated chance of game deletion) from the MissingNo glitch can be spread over the Link Cable. However, the fact that something was GameSharked definitely does not, since the game has no way of knowing that a Shark was used. (Unless they somehow manage to Shark themselves the MissingNo glitch...)

So, if the opposition Hall of Fame is not messed up it won't damage your game? What if they cheated but don't have the Hall of Fame yet?

Can't say I've ever had problems - and I've done all of that and likely more. Sharking, Missingno, stadium, turning off the game when I shouldn't have, mystery gift, etc. My blue cart is nearing 255 hours and I haven't had any trouble with it, and I'm up to something like 100 with my gold cart and no problems.

Crap, having said that, Murphy's Law will come into effect soon. Better get a megamemory card.

I know that Missingno does, but sometimes legit files just up and die on me. I was playing through on Yellow, when I traded with my brother for a Meowth. His file (to my knowledge) was clean. When I turned the game on after the trade, I got the scariest message in the game:

"The file data is destroyed!"

I'm using MissingNo to multiply TM's and stuff. Hasn't erased my Red yet. I've never catched missingno though, and I never will.

Once my Yellow cart was pulled out of the GBC when it was running (I don't know why they didn't keep that little lock on GBC), but luckily nothing happened.

Things like this seam to happen for no apparant reason like this:

My mate traded with someone who had Missingno is his squad(it was amasing that the other persons save survived. He then traded Machop for Machop and when he got his he got a machop thats name had 6 weird characters then CHOP at the end. When he tryed to deposit it the game would just reset or lock up. Then he managed to get it into a box and when he tryed to release it it would just lock up or reset. The only way he could get rid of it was to start a new game
