Do you know how the game calculates the points in the bug catching convention? I caught a L14 Male Scyther and won over 2nd place Pinsir, but my friend also caught a L14 Male Scyther and lost to a Pinsir. Both Scythers were at full health.

There has to be some sort of randomness involved, otherwise I would have already won. I've lost with level 15 Scythers and Pinsirs, and as it stands, have never won. =P

I don´t know exactly how it works, but catching a pinsir or a scyther doesn't give you the first place.

Try catching a pokémon with a good level+health condition and get out of the contest... the man will asks if you wants to finish the contest. Say yes.

I figured out that if you spend a lot of time inside the park area, more dificult will it be to win, IMHO.

Would some pkmn sage answer us?

I've found that catching a high level Scyther or Pinser as soon as I enter the park works the best. Save before you try the contest; if you fail, then turn off then back on.

I won today with a level 16 Venonat at full health. I won third place with a level 17 Kakuna once but lost to a Metapod.

I lost last time with a male Lv. 13 Scyther...to a Butterfree. I won today, using a Lv. 14 Scyther, BEATING a BUTTERFREE. The game has a thing for Butterfrees, I guess.

I hate the Bug Catching Contest. The judges are biased against my Pinsirs. I catch a high-level-lifed one, and I LOSE TO A VENONAT. Stupid purple furry balls.

The contest is determind on the amount of MAX HP the Pokémon you caught has. Since that's the case, you're best bet is to find the highest lvl Pokémon you can.

Example:
Scyther lvl 16: 21/24 HP
Pinsir lvl 16: 20/25 HP

The Pinsir would win.

When you say full health, is it because you didn´t attack them, just threw the ball and caught?

I still believe that if you want to win, you must catch a pokémon with:
1) a high level
2) a high level health
3) evolved or last stage (since you can´t catch a Scizor inside the park, Scyther fits in this category)

But if you had already caught a lv 18 Butterfree with health 46 and then catch a lv 14 Scyther with health 46, you should stock the last one, because when if it were at lv 18, its health would be higher.

The Bug Catching contest looks at the genes as well as Hit Points to determine the winner. I've got the forumla somewhere around here...
