I was just wondering ... can pokemon learn moves through breeding that they would normally later learn in their training schedule:::

For example, can Recover be bred onto Abra?
For example, can Hydro Pump be bred onto Squirtle?

you can breed to a pokéy any moves it learns naturally, through tm's/hm's, and breed-only moves (these you can find online in various pokédexes... pokédices... poké... whatever!)

if an evolution can learn a move, but the basic form of the pokéy cannot, you can't breed it to that pokéy (unless it's a breed-only move).

nidoking learns surf. nidoran(m) does not. so you can't breed surf onto a nidoran(m).

i'm pretty sure i'm right on this one, but as always, it's best to get a second opinion.

Ah, that's what I was suspecting. After I posted this discussion I read another discussion with what you just said, and realised this.

Thanks!

Actually Porcupine, I registered this name before I saw your name on the board ... otherwise I wouldn't be using this name. I wouldn't want anyone to mistake me for you or you for me.

I've registered a new name already and am waiting for it to be authorised to post >_<

The other name will be Lid, if you're interested.

This is my standard internet alias. I've used it for about a year now.

It's unique, original, and makes people forget how to spell the word correctly.

Here's how breeding attacks works. If the male has any breed-only attacks or TMs or HMs the lowest evolution of the female can learn, they are passed down. If BOTH parents have a move that the lowest evolution of the female learns naturally, it's passed on. For example, if you had a male Mareep and a female Pikachu who both knew Thunder, the child would be a Pichu that knew Thunder.

you mean "learns naturally" here including tm's, right? unless pichu learns thunder at level 4 b'jillion or something...

Pichu doesn't learn Thunder through leveling up...

To pass a TM move down, only the male has to have it. To pass a naturally learned move down, like Thunder on Pikachu, both parents must know it. It doesn't matter if it's taught by TM or not, but both parents must have it and the child must be able to learn it. And I did mess up, Pichu doesn't learn Thunder, so that wouldn't work. But it would work the other way around, if the child was a Mareep and both parents knew Thunder, the egg will hatch into a Mareep with Thunder
