What have you gotten with your five finger discount?
Are you getting worth while Items( like a melt coat, nevermeltice) or just berries?

Sorry to kill your fantasy, but when you steal an item, you dont keep it. But back to the topic at hand, the only time I have used Thief was when I was training a weak Delibird, but I didn't get anything because it had EXP. Share strapped to it. Oh well.

Waitwaitwait! I've been trying Theif tons of times and nothing happens. How do you know when you've stolen some thing? And what do you mean by not getting to keep the junk? Thats only in Cable link battle...I think.

If you stole something, it'll say you did (BTW, it still does damage even if you do steal an item). But you can't have an item attached to the Pokémon using it, or it can't steal anything.

For example, what it said to me.

"Mothra (Crobat) used Theif! Stole enemy Ho-oh's Sacred Ash!"

Or something like that.

I know that you can't keep items in link battle, its the wild pokémon I'm questioning?
I've try in many battles and I was wondering if it is worth the time to keep tring if i can only steal berries then I don't think it would be worth the time
also abz1986 brings up a good question can you steal from trainers and the elite four?

A corollary to being able to steal from trainers/E4 would be the Mystery Gift Mirage House in Viridian... give your friend a pokemon with an item attached that you want duplicated, mystery gift, trade back, then you can Thief that item once a day until you mystery gift again.

Someone who's tried this: does it work?

I've stolen a Thick Club from a Cubone. There's no real point to stealing most items like Metal Coats and King's Rocks since you can duplicate the one you get for free. I might steal one of the Long Leeks from Farfetched for fun, though.

My thieving Sneasel has stolen three Moomilks from Miltanks and a Metal Coat from a Magnemite. I had to fight a lot of Magnemites for the Metal Coat, which I needed because I'd evolved a Scyther without duping the one I got from the game. The move adds an interesting game wihtin the game.

When you steal an item from a wild creature do you get it from the first use of thief?

I'm pretty sure that every time I've managed to steal something it has been on the first use of Thief. I assumed that it would be 100% successful if the enemy Poke had an item to steal, but now you've got me thinking. Does anyone know if Thief is 100% effective if the enemy has an item attached?

What is the persent chance of a wild pokémon having an item?

It varies. Most of the time (26.5%, to be precise), a Sentret will have a Berry attached. But 1.5% of the time, it has a Gold Berry. Go to www.pokemoninfodex.com to find out what items are attached to who and when.
