I remember reading somewhere that your pokémon is shiney if it has a certain combination of DV's. If this is true, my questions are:
1 How many different combinations are there
2 Are the combinations the same for each pokémon
3 If the answer is yes for #2, what are they.

For a Pokemon to be shiny, the Defense, Speed, and Special genes all have to be set to A (10). The Attack gene can be anything, meaning the derived HP gene will be either 0 or 8.

The odds of this happening are 16:65536 = 1:4096.

AFAIK, this rule is the same for all Pokemon species.

Dam it.
I was hoping that max stat pokémon would be shiney.

Is there any reason to have shiney pokémon, except for their shine/colour?

Then look nifty, and anyone who doesn't know about DVs will think that you're a "pokeyman master" because you've got one.

Actually, the odds are 1/8192: only half the values of attack yield shinies.

Shiny monsters are unique, they aren't necessarily max stat...

I think that's cool, though I wish I could get a shiny female burraki.

In the Gold/Silver editions, a "Shiny" pokémon is a different colour to normal, and appears in battle with a neato little sparkle animation.

As has been said, shiny pokémon do not have the best stats avaliable, so if you get one, don't think that it's automatically stronger than an unshiny pokémon.

Which half of the Attack genes will make it shiny?
