Wouldn't it be easier to find accuracy by looking at source code?

I thought that's what Necrosaro DID, which is why I stand by the 30% Freeze rate for Blizzard. Sadly, this drops to 10% in Stadium and G/S, though, so pretty soon it's not going to matter. Heh. Nobody in their right mind will be using Blizzard anyway.

Necrosaro's ROM-ripped data doesn't give the side-effect chance for moves in R/B/Y.

The only values ripped from the ROM were Power and Accuracy.

He had to guess at what the side effects did, and he guessed incorrectly several times.

Actually, I think others helped him out with the side effects, so they are probably to blame, not Necro.

So, to answer MT0's question...yes, that would be the most accurate thing to do, and that's what was done.

And there is no way in Hell Blizzard freezes 30% of the time. If it's not identical to Ice Beam's freeze rate, it's so friggin close that it hardly matters (eg, 10% vs. 11%).

I doubt it's different, however.

Well, at the bottom of his RBY list, it says: "Thanks to everyone who helped me with the special attribute i was missing."

Also, I guess he didn't really get anything "wrong"...he just wasn't very specific.

Like Swift being "100%" accurate. It's pretty close, and 100 is a fair rounding of 99.6, but it's not exactly correct.

...also, I don't think anyone's actually found the side-effects in the ROM. What they find is a hex value that points to a routine. So if 2 attacks have the same hex value, you know they probably have the same side effect. But until you decode the routines (which I don't think anyone has done), you're still just guessing.

Which brings up a question: what should we put on our Ice Pokemon to replace Blizzard? Besides Ice Beam that is.

I guess the question is, what lead to the discrepancy in Ice Beam vs. Blizzard? Do they have the same ROM encoding for their effects?

You obviously read wrong. It says right there "Has a one-in-ten chance of freezing the opponent solid." That means it's a 10% chance.

Ice beam is already being used to replace blizzard...

And personally, I like it better. Somewhat more accurate, more PP, a little less powerful, and IMHO, a cooler graphical effect.
