Does Focus Energy inprove the chance of a Crtical Hit even on a move that already has a Critical Hit enhancer built in, like Slash?
So if I use Focus Energy and then Slash would the CH% be much greater than doing Focus Energy then, say, tackle?
The site didn't say, that's why I ask.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by Wintermute:
For most physical/special attacks, it's

(attacker's base Speed / 2) / 256

For the high-CH moves (Karate Chop, Slash, Razor Leaf, Crabhammer), it's

(attacker's base Speed x 4) / 256

The numerator in parentheses has a maximum value of 255, though. For the high-CH moves, anyone with a base Speed of 63.75 (255 / 4) or higher will CH 99.61% of the time.

Also, Focus Energy in RBY reduces the chances of a CH by a factor of 4, so if you're using FE plus a regular physical/special attack, it's

(attacker's base Speed / 8) / 256

If using FE plus a high-CH move, it's

attacker's base Speed / 256

I suspect that FE was intended to [b]increase the probability by a factor of 4. I further suspect that this is what it actually does in Stadium.

OH MY GOD! That's why myscyther has been Critical Hitting so much, I didn't think it affected it, WOW! That makes it a whole new ball game for scythers! This means that scythers have the best criticals in the game as far as I know....
Focus Energy
Swords Dance
Agility
Slash

Now I have to figure out how to make him live for 8 turns to get my Slash! X^P

Umm... that's not going to work... A Critical Hit cancels out any Swords Dances... Also a Scyther has a BASE chance of getting a CH w/ Slash of ::checks formula:: 99.6% chance... and after using Focus Energy it remains at 99.6%... you've just wasted two moves on your scyther... and did you think that Agility raises CH? It's the BASE speed not modified...

Fanha-but in Stadium Focus Energy appears to work correctly. I DO NOT have solid data to prove it.

This entire string is based on the fact that Stadium's Focus energy works. This has been well known info as evidenced by Wintermutes post

Focus Energy works in Stadium. According to an article (I think I saw it on Yahoo news) Nintendo of America had to recode the Pokemon GB games from scratch because the game coding was several years old and very unstable. Focus Energy could be an error in the recoding. I'd believe that because I doubt the original programers would mess up like that.

It does. It means that they looked at their code from Pokemon Blue/Red and it was all messed up and unreadable and no one could understand it well after so many years had passed. So they just started from scratch rewriting a good part of the code, probably. =D

You have a point. They SAY Focus Energy is supposed to increase the chance of a critical but it never really does in the game. If it works okay in Stadium,I may try to use it with certain characters(like Jolteon)!

A fanfic side of Focus Energy, from a Pokefic
writer by the name of Cullen Pittman(visit his site at http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Academy/5000!

"No problem", said Reiko weakly, "But this does feel like a nice
workout though." Machoke 2 started pumping itself up causing Reiko to
get up while her arms were blowing up like huge balloons.

"Uh oh", thought Cameron, "That looks like Machoke's focus energy.
Now I'm in for it!" But then Cameron found his arms and pecs blowing
up for Machoke 1 was using focus energy as well.

See ya later!

*nods* That explained it better than I did. And since I doubt the code in G/S is like that, then Focus Energy might work in English G/S.

Does it work in Japanese G/S? I need to know, because I keep dropping it for other moves because I don't think it does. I have tested it on Hitmonlee and haven't criticaled with it yet.

Wow.

They recoded the whole thing, yet it looks nearly identical?

Gee.
