Hey, anyone have researched (or at the very least seen) any color-changed pokémon?

'Cloyster' ID 08767(?) is cyan instead of violet
'Jiggly' ID ? has green eyes instead of blue

And trainers' pokémon, too...

'VOLTCIAN' is purple/white

Any others?

Ok, I've been looking at this, and have come to some conclusions:

1): I have done all my testing with trainer id#00000. I believe some function of these two bytes is involved...
2): I know for a fact that the other bytes are added together and checked against a reference value after some function is performed (probably to combine it with the id#).

Example: My girlfriend caught a Growlithe an named it Redd (after the color ). Lucky her, it was red instead of orange. So I tried different monsters with the same id# whose letters added up to be the same (Rece, Peai, Qida) all turned out to be alternate colors (Red Growlithe, light blue dratini, very light blue lapras).

Haven't checked to see how OT# reacts with this, etc.

This is continuing, obviously...

Mmm, I saw an opponents Raichu named Rai with a lighter shade of yellow so I did th same...but no luck.,,,,mine stayed the same..so OT probably matters..

Oh Good Grief people. We're looking for an algorithm right? Don't just post the name, also post the OT number. That way we'll have a large basis to figure this out on. They probably just add all the bytes together, but they may have a couple special colors for each monster.

Could that be the case with the oddly coloured Pokemon in Gold/Silver (like Golden Gyarados or Silver Rynhorn)?

Check out my post at: http://www.math.miami.edu/~jam/azure/forum/tuff/Forum4/HTML/000003.html

for info about Shiny monsters in Gold/Silver.

(basically, it's based on stats. Some of you could technically already have monsters that, when transfered to G/S, are shiny)

The colors in Stadium are based on some function of the name and the OT #. That function is almost certainly addition, but I still wonder after how many bits it truncates (16 or 8 bit number).

Are gold gyrados in stadium? Red are in G/S, where are the two you mentioned, and their appropriate parameters (OT# and nick if Stadium, stats if G/S).

Thank you,

A little more info on this is at: http://guides.ign.com/guides/11154/secrets.html

But they don't have the algorithm yet, just a few of the built in methods for getting different colored monsters (lowercase, etc., just as the in game trainers do).

My silver Rynhorn's ID# is 31599 and it is male. Strangely, at http://www.pokemasters.com/gameboy/gold_silver/walkthru/pokemon.html is a picture of another silver Rynhorn, and it's got the exact same ID number!

I forgot his stats, but they have been changed anyway, because I used it in a battle and leveled it...

This guy implies that his Rhydon was "on victory road". Was this a planned encounter or a happenstance one? If planned, then its stats will either correlate to the ones discussed in: http://www.math.miami.edu/~jam/azure/forum/tuff/Forum4/HTML/000003.html
(the male shiny codes), or will correlate to a new set of shiny codes.

If anyone has found this same monster (silver Rhydon on victory road, please either post its unleveled stats and its level, or its deter values (preferable)).

Or, Jan, you could knock its stat EXP down to zero with a GameShark and pop it in and out of a box, then record its stats and level here, and then reset without saving (thus preserving your stat EXP).

If you have a Shark and are willing but don't know how to do this, respond...

I don't have a GS, it is hard to get one where I live.
I've tried doing it in no$gmb (emulator), but I didn't catch any shining pokemon there (except Gyarados)...

Silver Rynhorn I caught appears to be completley random; I was walking around Victory Road, when it appeared.

However, I just noticed that ALL my pokemon in the (silver) game have same ID numbers (35199). ID# is just like IP. Maybe the shining Pokemon you run into depend on your ID number? For example, if your ID# is umm...23387, you encounter shining Rattatas,
if your ID# is 45271 you'd run into shining Magikarps etc.

Further testing with modifying OT# and name has shown that it is based on the addition of the binary values of the characters in the name of the monster with the first and second byte of the OT#.

I don't know:

(a) - What number they are supposed to sum to.

(b) - Whether or not the OT name is used.

(c) - How many possible colors each monster has (two? three? four?).

I would like those who haven't, and have the time, to post

(1)-Nickname
(2)-OT#
(3)-OTname
(4)-type and color it is

for all oddly colored monsters.

(4) is optional: after all, Redd, OT# 00000, OTname=John will make a Red Growlithe, a light blue Lapras, etc. So will Recc, OT# 00257 (hex 0101), same OTname. All I did is add one to two bytes, so I had to subtract one from two others.

Capitalization is VERY important.

So far we have:

Nickname: Cloyster
ID# 08767
OTname ?
c/type: cyan Cloyster

Nickname: Sir Rupert
ID# 09690
OTname REID
c/type: green Snorlax

Everyone else who posted didn't include OT#, or something.

If you have any to add, please do. It won't be hard to find the algorithm when we have data in numbers...

Thank you,

-cfalcon

I have no clue what is going on here. From what I know, the are only a few reasons for the colors: all caps, reverse syllables, dashes...but that is what Nintendo came up with, they don't know much.
And I always wanted to know how they got the numbers on there?

This is probably true for the Metallic ones, like that gold Kingler and Silver Rhydon mentioned a little while ago. Does anyone know the DV's for colored pokémon from G/S?

I think that it's based solely off the OT#, but as usual, I'm probably wrong.

It's the name, not the genes.

I've tried this theory out by cloning some of my Pokemon and giving the clones new names. The clones had different colors with the new names.

I don't know how OT and ID fit in, though.

Ok, check out my earlier posts.

First, there are some predefined names that generate certain colors. ign64.com has a list of a few.

I'm trying to figure out what the algorithm is for deciding on colors. Simply put, every byte in the name is added to both bytes in the OT#. I don't know about the OT name. If all this equals something, then it is a certain color. I'm pretty confident that genes don't enter into it, as the monsters I experimented with didn't have identical genes, but the same names yielded special colors, as did names where I would change them around alphabetically.

As an update on my progress: I captured 120 monsters with progressing names. I'm still analyzing the data from that... it seems there is a range of colors for each monster. The one I was testing, Kingler, seems to go from Red to Orange for certain increasing values of the text. The effects seemed centered on the first two characters... it was wierd.

I'll let you guys know when I have a method of getting any colored monster you want...

I think the data you guys are giving me is helpful: if I'm wrong about how things occur, I could be wrong about that too, but either way I appreciate the effort.

Again, thank you all.

I thought this would be helpful in your research... I have 7 mewtwos that I use (21 total but only 7 w/ perfect stats) named "Grep", "Q", "Cell", "Baramos", "Hulkster", "Sacrotes", and "Booger". They all have the same stats, ID# and OT (15911 and "ASH" respectively) All names have been posted case-sensitive. I don't remember their colour schemes but I know they are all different.

Falcon I just thought this post would help in your research because this has many different nicknames for different colored pokémon and I thought you could try and get the info you needed from them:

I think i just figured out how to make the color darker or lighter. If all the letters are Capitals it is dark if they are Lowercase then the color has the same darkness. I am going to test this when done i will post it here.

While building my massive Army of Omanytes in order to find a Max Stat Omastar (Missingno Duped Helix Fossil), I named each one an increasing hex name. From A to Z, then a to z, then AA to AZ, then Aa to Az, then BA and so forth.

Only about the first five (A, B, C, D, E, and maybe F and G) were one colour and the rest gradually gradient after a sharp clash in colour from the previous generations.

I'm pretty sure it is definitely in the names. My Mewtwo's name is FENIX, and it is the same color as Biffster's Mewtwo named KEVIN. If it wasn't in the names, how would it work out exactly for a Pokémon with the name of the Pokémon it is (no nickname) be the normal colors?

I think ID # does matter... My 'Jiggly' in my old game had greener eyes, my current 'Jiggly' has normal bluish-green eyes.

I don't think OT # matters either. I have two odd-colored Pokemon:

Tentacruel, nickname: Kracken, very green
Arcanine, nickname: Hellhound, blood red

I typed these capitalized, like here. However, both pokemon were odd colors with OT #'s 24695 and 06390.

Here are my coloured Pokémon. All have the same ID(57300) and OT(Proto).

NESSIE, a Lapras. She is all normal except for dabs of white on her horn and ears. She's cute.

TOAD, a Venusaur. He is much darker than a normal Venusaur.

SHADOW, a Gengar. He is normal coloured.

VENOM, a Gengar. He is a bluish-violet colour.

BREAKER, a Mew. She has brighter pink spots, as far as I can tell.

DOLUS, a Starmie. He is normal.

LANCE, a Dugtrio. He is normal.

MUFF, an Eevee. She has a yellow tone.

BYRD, a Zapdos. She has a toned down neon yellow colour.

Muff, Gary's Eevee - She took down Rhydon with a single Quick Attack. She cannot be stopped until her opponent has been defeated. She is a warrior, and only faces the toughest of opponents at Master Gary's command.

I've been experimenting with Ditto's.

The first 2 nletters seem to corrospond with the first two numbers of the OT# which makes some kind of code. Also all letters after five don't seem to matter at all.

That makes sense, since the Japanese versions of Pokemon only have five-character names. They probably didn't want to rewrite the whole name-colour relationship algorithms for the English release.
