Never seen it, but I suppose it could happen theoretically, as I'm not familiar with the internal workings of the game.

This happened to me once. Sit around my children and I will tell you a tale:

One rainy Saturday afternoon I was bored so I thought I'd amuse myself by trying to beat the E4 with only a Clefable. I went in, loreli sent out her Dewgong and I my Clefable. I used doublslap and then I thought "Hmmm, maybe it would be more fun to defeat her with metronome". So I used metronome and then used some attack, I used it again and it said "Clefable used metronome!", Clefable used metronome!', Clefable used Thunder!" Then thunder missed and I went on to lose to Lance.

THE END

That's never happened to me, but it's theoretically possible. Also something else to ponder: How the hell can Arbok use Mega Kick? Theoretically, this could happen, if Arbok learned Mimic, the opponent used Mega Kick, and Arbok used Mimic. An interesting thought to ponder.

any questions?

FLAREON used HYDRO PUMP

I don't see why it wouldn't happen: Metronome just selects an attack randomly, and obviously the programmers didn't think it was worth the effort to program in a block to stop it from generating Metronome again.

You see, I think it is just the opposite. Although NeoBattle (a program I'm making that imitates the game, for AIM battles) works differently than the game, I imagine it works pretty much the same for most things. And in order for Metronome to work twice in a row, I actually had to program in an event that makes the program "jump back" to the metronome function if metronome is acquired through metronome. It would be a lot easier to just eliminate Metronome from the possible move list that can be acquired from Metronome. So basically, I imagine the programmers intentionally made it possible to get Metronome from Metronome, unless the game is way different than NeoBattle.

Hey, NeoSyrex! Send me a copy of NeoBattle when it's finished!

(this next part has almost nothing to do with the subject)
You can make snorlax look like it's flying by turning it upside-down in your pokédex, or while checking stats for a snorlax... just use the control pad...
(back on subject...)

Snorlax surfing is cool in the anime... so now i'm training a snorlax. My new goal is to train my snorlax to fly. Sound impossible? It's called Metronome! Time to get to work...

I love pokémon!

Metronome, Mimic, Mirror Move. These moves let Pokémon do things that normally could never be done. I think they bend the laws of the universe or something, that's how Mr. Mime did wing attack without wings. I will be a master of the simulacrum!

Wigglytuff can learn Mega Kick through a TM. It doesn't need to Metronome. There's an animation for it, too. You probably saw a glitch of some sort.

The animation for metronome stinks! A metronome is either a flash of light or a time keeper for a piano. But the pokemon is said to "wiggle it's finger". Bull.

Did you know Lovely kiss is a One hit KO? In stadium the move is said to make the offending pokemon "pass out". Pass out means the same thing as FAINT. A 75% accurate One hit KO..... sweeeeeet.......

A metronome (meaning the time keeper) moves left and right. As shown in the anime, the Pokemon moves it finger(s) left and right, thus making a metronome-like motion. In the original it's known as "Finger Wag" or something to that affect, so blame NoA for the name.

I've seen Snorlax use Metronome in Stadium, and it yielded Fly. I nearly busted a gut laughing at the animation. I have heard people say that Metronome can yield Metronome. I haven't witnessed it yet, but it undoubtably happens.

Disable, too. I caught a Mewtwo at Level 50 once with Gameshark. People quickly forget that Mewtwo learns Disable at one time, because he's famous for Amnesia/Psychic and being generally cheap. Of course, it's legally impossible to get a Mewtwo with Disable unless you Shark and catch it at a lower level.

Haha! I once got that Metronome Metronome thing to happen on Stadium, I forgot what it yielded (I think ember). I have also seen snorlax fly, it was hilarious! Also, why would sky attack look hilarious on snorlax? It just glows and shoots a fire bird right? What I really want to know is what a Diglett or Dugtrio look like flying and what a bird looks like digging.

On a (slightly) related note, I was training in the Cerulean Cave, and a Ditto appeared and battled my Pidgeot. I used Mirror Move on Transform. Nothing seemed to happen, but then I realised that my Pidgeot suddenly only had 5PP on all its moves! Also how can a Diglett naturally do Scratch when it doesn't even have claws?

Not true Pokamek, I don't even own a Gameshark, and I have a level 2 Mewtwo. I named my character in the blue version TODD and whenever I do the missingno. trick, it sometimes yields a lv 145 Mewtwo, so I duplicated Rare Candies and raised it to level 2. Pretty sweet huh?

Also, it's impossible to lock-up Stadium using metronome, all the character have like 3 or 4 animations and the game is programmed to use one of those animations for each and every move.

A metronome is a triangular device with a flat top and a little clock-like hand that goes back and forth from left to right, and a Pokemon does the same thing while using metronome. It's the same basic principle.

Also strange in Stadium is the way that Rhydons(I think) can learn Surf. It looks very strange, the animation as the rock/ground type gets covered with water..eh?
The Surfing Pikachu/Raichu animations are very interesting.... :-)

Funny stuff...

I saw a Fearow use Dig in Stadium once. Nothing too special, it just spins around butt-first into the ground like any pokemon that could use Dig normally. I would like to see Diglett use Fly though. Either he'd be forced to show his entire body, or he'd have to take the ground up with him.

Time to find my Metronome TM...

I've also had this happen before:

*Mew uses metronome*
*Mew uses self-destruct*
*Mew fainted*
*Articuno fainted*

It had me and my friend in stitches - Mew blew herself up!

NeoSyrex, that's not the way it works in the game. That would take an enormous amount of time to program, so, they do it the easy way. Each attack has a hex value assigned to it. Then, each attack most likely has a label assigned to it. For example, the first attack might be 100 (1 for type - attack, pokemon, item...;00 for item of that category). The programmers would simply have the game generate a random value from 00 to however many attacks there are in hexadecimal, then they would add 100 (or 256 in decimal) to the number and store that as a variable. Then, they would convert the variable into a string ("100" as opposed to 100) and then goto the label "100". Telling the game to generate a random number again instead of calling metronome from the beginning whenever 149 or whatever it would be for metronome would take extra time and would be pointless because it would yield the exact same effect.

That's all for now.

Sharkery rules. I taught my Diglett Fly and uploaded it to Stadium. Before I did this I thought that Diglett would strech all the way up like a thin brown column with eyes. As it turns out, he flies up and takes the ground with him! He looks all cool with his head bobbing, then when he attacks, more ground miraculously appears as he charges forward. Next test: Jynx with "Exposion" (Explosion misspelled on digit list )
