Well, it’s happened. I finally took some steps into serious team making for RS. This is the first planned team and I think it has great potential and looks decent. I’ve explained everything because there really aren’t any official sets just yet. All of these I attempted to create on my own. I’ve got a Spikes team going on here with plenty of attempts at forcing switches. I’ve also tried to disable the attack stats of my opponent through Will-O-Wisp, which ups the staying power of this team. One last thing, I’m not exactly sure how the dispersing of stat experience works so if someone feels like explaining/linking me to an explanation, that would be very helpful.
Gardevoir: Will-O-Wisp, Calm Mind, Imprison, Psychic @Leftovers &Trace Personality: Modest (-Attack, +Special Attack)
Meh, I’m not sure here. I personally like Gardevoir and it seems like it can do a decent job. The burning move is sweet and protects the weak defense. Calm Mind + Imprison is a combo that might prove effective in stopping other pokemon from upping their special stats. Plus, I’ve seen a few people leading with Dusclops and Ninetales, which both are usually armed with Will-O-Wisp. You know why Psychic’s there. Trace is pretty useful for some of those traits like Pressure.
Cacturne: Spikes, Leech Seed, Sandstorm, Needle Arm @Leftovers &Sand Veil Personality: Calm (-Attack, +Special Defense)
If it just gets Spikes off, I’ll be pretty happy. It does get a decent amount of annoyance moves, which is good. Sand Veil ups the evasion while Sandstorm is up, so the staying power does get boosted slightly. Grass moves I find to be pretty useful, so I got that in there, as well.
Ninetales: Will-O-Wisp, Flamethrower, Safeguard, Grudge @Leftovers &Flash Fire Personality: Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack)
It was pointed out to me that I have a Skarmory problem. The one pokemon I never have trouble with in GSC comes back to haunt me here =/. Pulled Banette for Ninetales to cover that. Basically, I switched STAB moves and added in Safeguard. I'm not sure if I'll need it or not, but it stays until I find something better.
Dodrio: Drill Peck, Rest, Haze, Torment @Leftovers &Early Bird Personality: Careful (+Special Defense, -Special Attack)
Assuming that the trait Early Bird works with Rest; Dodrio has the potential to be a really sweet hazer. Torment works well to prevent stuff… I dunno, I figure it will work out. Drill Peck is a nice STAB attack and hits stuff hard like my Heracross below. Lastly, what would my first team be without my trademark pokemon?
Swampert: Muddy Water, Earthquake, Mirror Coat, Roar @Leftovers &Torrent Personality: Naughty (+Attack, -Special Defense)
Swampert is good on paper. Really good. Muddy Water forces some switches if the accuracy drop kicks in. Roar is for any random force switching and pseudo-hazing… the typing is great for it. I figured a Mirror Coat wouldn’t hurt considering I don’t exactly like special attacks and have attack cuts from Will-O-Wisp. I took a personality that weakens special defense in order to get a little more damage out of Mirror Coat.
Heracross: Bulk Up, Megahorn, Rock Tomb, Brick Break @Leftovers &Swarm Personality: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack)
Bulk Up here almost seems like a must. The attack boost + no speed loss + 120 base + STAB + Swarm = power. Rock Tomb sits in here for flying types, but mainly for the speed lowering. Brick Break is also a filler but it picks up STAB and has a decent side effect. This set’s pretty self-explanatory.
Well, advice is welcome. I'll fix the items up later since I recall seeing somewhere that box trick doesn't work and stuff.. Thanks.
EDIT1: Pulled Banette for Ninetales. Damn Skarmory. [ 03-27-2003, 11:47 PM: Message edited by: TeLeFonE ]

Heh, using my Gardevoir opener... my first team had that one . Well... close to the same... Calm Mind is new. Maybe Rest for a recovery move?
Bannette's staying power might be too low, if you max out speed and Att Effort....
I forget what Torment/Muddy Water/Brick Break do...
Swampert... Mirror Coat... You have a whole, what, 1 thing with Will O Wisp? Physical moves will still be flying, although Grass is your main concern, and there's no chance in HFIL that you can survive that with -SpcDef... very little without it, too...
Heracross is cruel, and too G/S-y for my liking...
Well, my comments. Give stats, or where effort values are going, for better info on things.

Hey, I rated the team; don't expect me to read your notes, too
In the game, every poke gives 1-3 stat EXP. Generally, 3rd-form of a 3-form evo. family gives the highest; stats are usually irrelevant.
Now, each poke can accumulate a grand total of 510 stat EXP points. That's in every stat, HP-included, combined. Any given stat can only have 255, as well, although 252 does the same thing, due to rounding...
As for the stat it adds: At level 100, you can simply take the stat EXP value, divide it by 4, chop off the remainders, and add it to the poke's stats.
How does this differ from older games? Well, in theory, 252/4 = 63. That's +63 points to every stat. In RuSa, you can have two stats gain +63, and 1 stat gain +1 from the leftover 6 (since 252+252+6=510). So, the other 3 stats have -63 from their max possible value, and a 4th one has -62. If you had the personality bonus on the poke, you add the stat bonus before multiplying it by 0.9 or 1.1.
So, biggest problem: You want that great stat that this pokemon boosts, and probably another, like Speed, but then you have crap-for HP. -63 HP is a big deal, especially with some of these Base 60 HP pokes.
So, you can either use a calculator to figure out the poke's final stats, after effort value and personality bonus, or you can just give a general indication of where you want your stats to go.

There's some on the ferry that opens after you beat the game.
Or you can do what I did and walk around with a Zigzagoon or Linoone until you get some. It's rare, but Ziggy does pick up Leftovers.

Roar would be a good alternative to Safeguard on Ninetales. You can use it to burn multiple pokes with Jack-o-Lantern and hit them with the spikes as well, not to mention totally screwing over those BP fags.

._. I'm with TeeJay.... lots of King's Rock/ Rare Candy/ Protein/ useless in-game itens I sell ... but no Leftover (just the one from SS Tidal).
Will-o-Wisp = Causes Burn. Imprison = Opponente cannot use moves your active pokémon knows.
