This thread reminded me that a pretty extensive subculture developed here at AH, and other Pokémon related message boards/sites.

While I most likely had no part in shaping it, I really enjoyed the ride. The acronyms, the internal jokes, the plain weirdness, and last but certainly not least the Pokémon games, the hacking, the battling...

But was it unique, or just an adaption of large Internet memes and fads (goatse, All Your Base, file sharing...) by a subgroup, applying their own thoughts and views on these things, adapting and changing it?

What, ultimately, determines the shapes of these subcultures? The members themselves, who choose what to make part of the culture, or something larger, introducing concepts adopted and adapted by the group? I think future historians would find places like AH very interesting, if only the data survived long enough.

Anything to add?

The AH subculture frowns on serious topics.

This may have been an intriguing topic years ago, but at this point it's pretty much in who the fuck cares territory.

Yeah, I figured that it might be the case... Strange enough, I do find it pretty intriguing, now, when it's almost over... Like, "wtf really happened?", you know?

haha, he said "me"

The subcultures frowns upon individualism. There is no "me" in Azure Heights. There's not even a capital "I" in it.

It is interesting. I checked, my name is only meantioned once and it wasn't even the punchline, but oh well. Right now, the current fad is 3 lines or less, any more deserves a tl;dr. Hopefully we'll get over it, someday. I'll give it 4 more months before anything changes.

I think AH died or at least got cancer as soon as I showed up. I'm not saying it was my fault, just that that was the case.

Second thoughts Jump was bizzanned about three months after I got here so that was probably what killed AH.

jump was black and devoid of firearms at the time

It's a fact. Black people steal appliances. That's why cfalcon knows it is crucial that we not treat them like humans.

Intellectual discussion?

Basically it was a place for confused, angsty, and mostly nerdy teenagers to bitch and discuss about their lives. Most of us aren't teenagers anymore. We've sorted out our places in life, so we don't need Azure anymore. It served its' purpose. Not that I'd ever include it in an autobiography because of the sheer shame of admitting it, but the online Pokemon community played a big role in helping me grow up.

But it's over now.

To all you guys that are still here: Thanks. Even though I never really posted much and tried to stay in the background, I had some great times...partially because I had no life and I still don't.

Yeah, me too. I guess "intellectual discussion" was stretching it a bit though...

Some of the discussion topics that ranged 10 pages long could be construed as intelligent discussion. Well, okay, it containedd intelligence on one side of the topic, and the other was just prompts for more evidence. Very helpful for finding resources to support me in real debates on those subjects. We didn't really have any intelligent conservatives here who were willing to stand up and actually believe what they were saying. The closest we had were the debates amongst White Cat, Wintermute, Mr. KKK, cflakkin, et al. Then the mods got bored with cflakkin and banned him from saying anything over three lines, which essentially put the kebosh on any other intelligent topics cause hardly anyone else wanted to post at length or were afraid to.

I also think the lack of use of AH as a place for the angsty teens to vent and shit anymore has degenerated the place a bit.

No no, i think that the problem is the excessive homosexualization of the members. :---(
Everyone used to be  like 2 years ago but what has become of them now ? Disgrace.
