Yeah, not really, but people tend to say that from time to time, so I thought I'd give you guys a little perspective...

Here are numbers for individual visits to the site (which are estimates, but the method is constant):

August 2000: 21,039
August 2001: 22,859
August 2002: 22,180

September 2000: 21,953
September 2001: 17,774
September 2002: 17,259

(That includes the forum.)

So, anyway...no real trends, except that things are remaining surprisingly constant.

Random stats for this month from the real site:

133 people have checked out the Wigglytuff page.
The Mewtwo page is the most popular non-index page on the site (485 hits).
329 people were disappointed to find out that there's still nothing new on the What's New? page.
The most popular index pages are the Pokedex ones that sort by type. Pity we never finished them.
The most popular attack this month is Hyper Beam (104 hits).
Least popular Pokemon: Machoke (74 hits).

Since I never really considered the forum to be very important, I'm gratified that people are still getting great use out of the real site.

Anyway, just thought some of you freaks might be interested...

Are those hits including people that are just visiting the main site page and going directly to the forums? 'cause if it isn't, then I'd be damned surprised that you got that many hits on an page that is information on a game that is what, like 3-4 years old (?). I'd really be interested to see the stats on the forums in general compared to those, and then a breakdown of view to each of the different boards.

IceHawk78: Are those hits including people that are just visiting the main site page and going directly to the forums?

Yeah. I think the other numbers show that the majority of the traffic is going straight to the forum. Plus, if you log on in the morning, and then again later in the day from another machine, or with a different IP, that's definitely more than one "visit". If you come back after a certain amount of time passes, that's another "visit". It's web log scanning software, so it doesn't pay attention to forum usernames.

I'd really be interested to see the stats on the forums in general compared to those, and then a breakdown of view to each of the different boards.

I don't have any stats like that. I never cared much about the forum, so I never got the thing to record specific data with regards to it. It doesn't record what's going on with regards to individual forum page views, it just records the tally.

When you visit those pages sorted by types (like you said), some of them have movesets that were picked to be standard for each Pokémon. If those did get finished, they would be really helpful for moveset ideas.

Does it tell how many people entered 666 in the Pokedex?

I agree.

Only one this month, as of this morning.

Hmm. I thought the numbers would be lower than that.

Since the beginning of the year, 71 people have looked at the Wigglytuff page. 172 have checked out Mewtwo.

Blizzard is the most popular attack in 2004 (54 hits).

Least popular Pokemon: Wartortle, with just 32 hits.

Weird, huh? I guess a lot of people still use the data.

During the first week of October, 68 people have looked at the Wigglytuff page. 190 have checked out Mewtwo. Charizard and Alakazam both have over 200.

Flamethrower is the most popular attack this month (41 hits).

Least popular Pokemon: Venonat, with 45 hits.

There is a season, turn, turn, turn...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and only one person has checked out the 666 page during the first week of October.

I cannot explain this. Maybe someone has linked to our images and is using them in their sig or something.

EDIT: Maybe Google and other spiders are crawling the page 20 times a day?

Also 11 people have checked out the 666 page this month.

Semi-interestingly 1337 have visited the Stat Mods page this month (far and away the highest attack-based total).

Most popular attacks: Hyper-Beam (216), Body Slam (186)
Most popular species: Mewtwo (1139), Charizard (1041)

Wigglytuff has 366 hits. Koffing has 325.

Least popular attacks: Struggle (21), Super Fang (26), Comet Punch (29)
Least popular species: Grimer (290), Poliwag (291), Magnemite (300)

509 people found out there is still nothing new.

I think it's actually just that this is exactly the time when people who had quit Pokemon years ago are beginning to feel nostalgia for it. That's why I found Azure. I quit around the time that Gold and Silver came out. When my friend bought a Gameboy with "Pokemon Red" I got pumped up for some oldschool battles. But I had long since sold my "Pokemon Red" to a neighbor, and I wasn't about to buy another one. So I did the next best thing: borrowed Stadium from another friend and played it (with the pathetic "rental" pokemon) until our eyes started to bleed. I tried playing the 1Player part, but I couldn't beat the higher level using rentals, so I started looking online for either
1) a Transfer Pak with R/B/Y for under 5 bucks
or
2) Some strategy I hadn't considered that would allow me to beat Stadium using only rentals
What I found was Azure Heights. I imagine a large number of those hits from this year are people in similar situations.

Is all this old data at all helpful when playing the new games?

Posted by CHaRiZaRd (Member # 994) on 10-28-2005, 01:32 AM:

To be perfectly honest, not really.

However, RBY is still played by many people, and consensus is it's easiest to learn while still being fun. In terms of numerical data, attack data, and some Pokemon type-analysis data, Azure is still very useful to newcomers.

A big chunk of the info is dated what with changing battle tactics and metagame changes, but fact is Azure was pretty much THE first place to do what it did for Pokemon, and it's still a good place to send people who want to learn pokemon from the beginning. It's ridiculously extensive, and very well structured.

Really makes no friggin' sense. Did they just get Pokemon in China or something?

All the records for Most Hits and Most Bytes Transferred are for 2006. If it isn't the spiders, someone must be leeching our images or something.

Maybe people are Googling pages that have suggestive words on them?

I dunno, man.

It's only the third, so the rest of the data isn't that interesting (it keeps monthly records), but the hits are still distributed as you'd expect, with Hyper Beam and Mewtwo having most of the hits.

Inexplicably, Karate Chop is the monthly attack leader, which leads me to believe some Googlin' action is going on there.

Tough to see a real pattern with just a couple days' worth of data. I'll try to remember to post again before the end of the month.

I'm pretty sure it's Google. Azure now has the highest pokedex entries for most of the RBY pokemon, averaging around 4th-6th on Google.

I think there must be some kind of increased interest in Pokemon lately. When I was actually updating my site back in 2003/2004, I got maybe 400 hits per day. Over the last six months or so, I've been averaging almost 1,000.

The biggest chunk of hits come from Google Image search, going to my picture of the 135 new Ruby/Sapphire Pokemon. I can't tell what the search terms were, but I see that it's the #1 hit for "new pokemon" (which probably means that every day, I'm making a thousand people angry that they didn't find pictures of the Diamond/Pearl ones).

Perhaps D/P has sparked a revival in the Pokemon francise that R/S/E (and possibly even G/S/C) failed to do?
