This thread will be for what I call the “Close Call Archives”. I have a few of my own, and if anyone else finds some, go ahead and post them here.

A Close Call is a scenario where a L100, perfect-stat Pokemon is guaranteed to survive an attack (some CHs, some without, and some that involve boost items). HOWEVER, at max damage for that attack for either CH, non-CH, or either of these with item, the Pokemon survives by less than 10 HP. Here are mine:

1. “Eggy Wasn’t Messed Up THAT Bad, Was It?”
Ho-oh with Sacred Fire against Exeggutor
Charcoal attached, no crit-hit
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 391

Eggy survives by 2. But it is slower, and SF burns half the time, so it usually dies anyway. But at least it can do damage to Ho-oh!

2. “If Everyone’s Using Machamp, Was I REALLY The First To Come Up With This?”
Mewtwo with Psychic against Machamp
Twistedspoon attached, no crit-hit
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 382

Self-explanatory. Now, if only ‘Champ could learn Reversal...

3. “Don’t Play With Scizors—Especially If You’re Wobbuffet”
Scizor using HP Bug-70 against Wobbuffet
No item, but a crit-hit
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 582

Now, all you have to hope for is that your opponent, seeing you had a Scizor out, didn’t select to use Counter. >.<

4. “A DOUBLE Close Call!”
Raichu with Scope Lens (for convenience) against Ho-oh with Soft Sand

First off, since Raichu’s faster,
Raichu used Thunder against Ho-oh!
Critical Hit!
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 408

So Ho-oh is left with 7 HP. Looks good, until...

Ho-oh used Earthquake against Raichu!
(no CH)
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 321

Cool, huh? Post here if you have any more.

Here's my $2. My thoughts are worth a dollar, so its 2$ instead of 2 cents. Anyway, I hope someone likes this, I spent most of my day figuring it out.

Adding onto that, not exactly followin teh rules, but I like Eggy.

(0) Eggy's (Hopeful) Revenge.
Eggy's Ancientpower vs. Houou
Hard Stone on Eggy
Critical Hit!!
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 477

Houou faints, but look: its a CH. I don't think Eggy'll kill Houou anytime soon.

(1) The Bug-Crusher.
Arcanine's Extremespeed vs. Weedle
Scope Lens, for convenience.
Critical Hit!!
MAXIMUM DAMAGE 274!!!

Weedle is left with 9HP. Now, if it could just survive the next turn

(2) KOFFING!!!
Koffing's Sludge Bomb against Tangela.
Scope Lens, again, for convenience.
Critical Hit!!
MAXIMUM DAMAGE 327!!!

Tangela survives with 6HP left. If only Koffing had better speed.

Well, I did a bit of work on this, and came up with a few:

Ursaring survives Machamp's Cross Chop by 14 HP.

Magneton survives Politoed's Earthquake with 7 HP.

Jynx survives a Ho-Oh's(+1 curse) Ancient Power with 7 HP (Wow!).

Steelix, with 1 Curse, still leaves Cyndaquil with 3 HP when using Rock Slide.

Qwilfish using Waterfall leaves Rhydon with 11 HP

Fearow with 3 Curses, using BP 102 Return, leaves Wigglytuff with 6 HP.

Wow!

I have a couple more.

If it has a Reflect up, Chansey can take a Double-Edge from a BD'd Snorlax. Maximum damage is 699.

Gyarados's W4 isn't THAT bad: Gengar, with the third-highest SA in the game, can't even OHKO it with Thunderbolt without crit-hit or Magnet. Maximum damage is 388.

1. "Jinxing the Moltres"
Moltres with Flamethrower against Jynx
Charcoal attached, no CH
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 324

Survives with 9 HP.

2. "Ghosts Are Better Off Draining with Dream Eater"
Haunter with Giga Drain against Kabutops
Miracle Seed attached, no CH
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 313

Aha!

3. "Don't Bother with Bone Rush"
Marowak with Bone Rush against Magcargo
No item attached (that includes Thick Club), no CH, hit 3 times.
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 300

!!!

4. "Magnitude Isn't Worth it Either"
Golem with Magnitude against Magcargo
No item attached, fully Cursed up, Magnitude 4 (10 base damage)
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 302

THAT'S 1 HP LEFT! GASPO!

5. "Mantine Loves Electric Punches"
Electabuzz with Thunderpunch against Mantine
Magnet attached, no CH
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 328

5 HP leftz0rz!

I could do more, but I won't.

I've got one

Eggy vs. Heracross
Heracross used megahorn.
It hung on with focus band.

ThumbsOfSteel: No. That's not the kind of thing I'm looking for. otherwise everyone would say things like "Scizor using False Swipe against a L3 Rattata."

And there is one more real one I have.

You have a Tyranitar that has gained an Ancientpower boost, no Soft Sand
The enemy has a Raikou whose DV's are adjusted for HP Ice; (15) 15/13/15/15

Tyranitar used Earthquake on Raikou!
No crit-hit.
MAXIMUM DAMAGE: 382

That happens to be one of the reasons I have Raikou on my team.

I was battling the computer on Stadium 2 using my Meganium (which was holding Focus Band)

Anyway, it held on with focus band at least 2 times in a row, I think it was 3 in all, and what's cool about that is the odds of that are like about 1 in 1000

Go Meganium!

This thread proves there IS a use for Quick Attack.

A Zapdos' non-Magnet Thunderbolt at max damage against a Pidgeot.

Max Damage: 366
Pidgeot's Max HP: 369

Unfortunately for that Pidgeot...

Pidgeot using Hyper Beam on Zapdos, CH, no Pink Bow

Max damage (I think): 367
Zapdos HP: 383

15 HP left.

I'm not sure who I was up again, but, I think the battle went like this.

Houndoom (with full HP) Vs. Somethin that knows Earthquake

Anyway, my Houndoom survived an Earthquake with 1 HP. (And he didn't use Endure, focus band, etc...)

Karpe Diem
