Let's assume the following situation:

We have 2 Pokemon, an attacker, and a defender.

The attacker:
Level 255
999 Attack (it won't go any higher without Thick Club, and we can't put that in here)
A Rock-type
A Hard Stone attached
The move Defense Curl
The move Rollout (assuming it can sustain full power with a Defense Curl as well)
NO CH (that would force level rollover)

The defender:
Level 0
1-7 Defense
3 Screeches (so their Defense is technically 1)
The types of Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug.

Under these conditions, the damage done by the 5th turn of Rollout (with Defense Curl in effect) would be:

Minimum Damage: 44815054
Average Damage: 48738953
Maximum Damage: 52662852

Can someone come up with something higher?

Attack: Fissure.

Damage Done: Infinite.

EDIT: If you used Explosion when their Defense is 1... theoretically since it halves it, and the game ALWAYS rounds down... wouldn't it crash the game due to division by zero?

OHKOs don't count.

As for division by zero, I'm pretty sure the game replaces the 0 with a 1 for damage calculation, or so I've heard.

Otherwise, like you said, the game would crash.

Replace it with a Marowak that has been hacked so that it's a Rock-type too, and has an Attack of 511, and has a Thick Club. Give it Rollout through Mimic, then continue as you described. YEAH! And you can't have 4 types because the game only has space for 2.

It could be possible. Keep everything, except give infinite HP for both attacker and defender and give bide to the defender and counter to the attacker.

Make it so that the opponent uses bide on the 3rd use of rollout.

So it would go like this:

Attacker used rollout (#3)
Defender uses Bide

Attacker used rollout (#4) doing 22 407 527 HP in damage
Defender is biding its time (releasing 44 815 054 HP in damage)

Attacker used rollout (#5) doing 44 815 054 in damage
Defender is biding its time

Defender used Bide doing 134 445 162 HP in damage
Attacker used counter doing 268 890 324 in damage.

Now thats damage! Blissey couldn't sustain that must damage until lvl 40 000 000.

Do that, but use Bide on the > 4 roll. Makes even more damage. Too lazy to run formula.

Good one Cesar. I like that. Infinite Hit Points with Bide and Counter, damn that'd be cool.

Biding and Countering doesn't work, because not only is the highest HP possible a mere 65535, but only damage taken is applied to Bide and Counter. Knowing how infinite-HP codes work, you wouldn't take any damage and couldn't Bide anything.

Total damage for my original suggestion is over 53 million (53,875,314 to be exact), just barely above Nick’s total.

Other things that came close:

33,472,248: Once again, Marowak with 511 Attack and Thick Club. Enemy’s types are Fire/Electric/Poison/Rock/Steel. Use Mimic to teach Magnitude, then attack the enemy with a 150 power Magnitude at 32x effectiveness, while they are using Dig. BOOM!

22,448,141: Same Marowak, only now I shark it up to be a Fighting-type and give it Reversal. Make sure its HP is not a multiple of 4, then use Substitute 4 times. (Make sure it breaks before setting up another one.) After 4 subs, Marowak has 1-3 HP left. If the enemy is Normal/Rock/Steel/Dark/Ice and you hit them with Reversal.........POW!

00,000,000: Start with Umbreon. Trap the enemy and proceed to fire off 3 Screeches. Also, use Curse 6 times to maximize Attack. Pass that to Jolteon, Scizor, Girafarig, or anyone else who can use Agility to correct the speed drop (not that you need to, but it sure is fun.) That Pokemon then passes those stat boosts to your Level 29, full PP Up’d Magikarp. But first, since the enemy will hate you for keeping them trapped for 17 turns, why not take your second BP’er and keep Roaring until you get their Misdreavus? That way, Tackle is useless as well! After passing to Magikarp, keep Splashing and Tackling, all while remembering that in just 117 more turns (PP Up’d Splash has 61 instead of 64), you’ll actually be able to damage the enemy! But wait, what’s this? Perish Song coming down on turn 114? Hey everyone, who wants fish sticks tonight? Oh wait, that’s a Sharked Misdreavus! On the 116th turn, it’s using Baton Pass! Out comes MEWTWO! Congratulations, your ‘Karp was taken down in exchange for the enemy’s Mewtwo! What a deal! [/sarcasm]

However, keep in mind that for the first two scenarios, that only 2 bytes are allocated to type, and 2 bytes are allocated to damage dealt. That means the damage must be divided by 8 (4 for my original suggestion), then take that number and keep subtracting 65536 from it until it’s 65535 or less, THEN you have actual damage that could be dealt. But in theory......

[EDIT]I forgot that Marowak would have to hold both Thick Club and Hard Stone/Blackbelt/Soft Sand in order for those figures to be attained. Replace the Marowak with some Pokemon of the appropriate type, L255 with 511 Attack, that has used a Swords Dance.

The types of Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug.

A Pokemon can only have two types. Also, I don't think GSC allows Pokemon to have levels higher that 100.

Since we're sharking, I'll just flat out shark the Attck to 1023. This does make all my totals slightly higher. (BTW, I stole your Omastar and it's now being a flame retardant after I bumped Mewtwo's Cheapness Revisited about 5 minutes ago.

So... in Ruby/Sappphire, is this any different?
Posted by Uiru (Member # 437) on 07-26-2004, 10:08 PM:
As far as I know, there's no rollover from Thick Club anymore, which would imply no level rollover (but I have no idea whether that's true or not).

Also, why didn't anyone point out that the level of the defender is irrelevant?

In rusa/frlg it is using deoxys-f agaisnt a ledyba or such.

max attack evs ivs and nature
goes 2v2
uses defense curl
gets rollout
uses conversion to become rock type
activates lansat berry
belly drums
gets choice band
gets huge/pure power

deoxys-f's partner
helping hand

lowest def possible
receives 3 screech
receives sweet scent hits if possible

-deoxys-f uses the 5th rollout on ledyba at the same time deoxys' partner uses helping hand.

i could do all of the above except one step... getting conversion to work. It was either rollout or conversion =/
but since you add sharking, you could do it, and add that bide thing to skyrocket the dmg. Would it possible to counter that back? Im not feeling like getting the dmg, when i thought this i was trying to get the max attack stat possible not damage.
oh, of course, add ch's in there
