What causes them in both R/B/Y and G/S? My Alakazam in stadium got about 3 Criticals in a row against snorlax.

Critical Hits in RBy are decided by a formula:
quote:

CH Number = int(int(int(S/2)*N)/256)
S = Pokémon's Base Speed
N = CH Modifier: N starts at 1. If you have used Focus Energy, divide N by 4.*
If you are using Karate Chop, Slash, Razor Leaf, or Crabhammer, multiply N by 4.

If a random number, from 0 to 256, is lower than the CH Number, the attack is a Critical Hit.
* It is known that Focus Energy reduces the chances of a Critical Hit. This has been fixed in Stadium (in which you should multiply, instead of divide, by 4)

In GS:

quote:

Calculation of Critical Hits is NOT based on Speed, as was the case in RBY.

A Critical Hit doubles the amount of damage done to the opponent by ignoring statistical modifications. During a Critical Hit:

• If the Defense stat stage for either Pokemon is greater than 0, it temporarily becomes 0.
• If the Attack stat stage for either Pokemon is less than 0, it temporarily becomes 0.

Determining Chances of a Critical Hit

A Critical Hit is based on value n and a random number. If the random number is less than n, then the attack is a Critical Hit. But how is n decided?

If Chansey is equipped with Lucky Punch, n=2. If Farfetch'd is equipped with Long Leek, n=2. If neither is true, n=0.
If Focus Energy has been used, then add 1 to n.
If the attack is Karate Chop/Razor Leaf/Crab Hammer/Slash/Aero Blast/Cross Chop, then add 2 to n.(Add 0 to n for any other attacks.)
If Scope Lens is equipped, add 1 to n.

After determining n, you'll get a Critical Hit (CH) number:

n CH Number
0 17
1 32
2 64
3 85
4 128

If the random number (from 1 to 256) is less than the CH Number, then the attack is a Critical Hit.

Igglybuff, that's what I mean for random numbers.

excellent - I'm just a bit fuzzy on

n CH Number
0 17
1 32
2 64
3 85
4 128

could you explain ? Ta.

As a result of this, I'm thinking about a farfetch'd with leek, slash, agility, swords' dance and baton pass.

what is the chance of a ffetch'd with

leek
slash

getting a critical hit ? thanks.
