About to start training a Swellow, and before that I want to decide which moves to put on it. Its parents are a Female Swellow and a male Altaria with Sky Attack and Mirror Move.

The main moveset looks something like this...

Aerial Ace
Double Team
@ Focus Band

Double Team until you get enough damage to use Endeavor. In case the opponent uses Psych Up against you, Swellow has Aerial Ace to make up for it. Also, it's obvious that this Pokémon will be the target of status-inducing moves, mainly Toxic. With the help of both Facade and this Pokémon's ability (Guts), it may do some significant damage before going down.

Now, the two little variants to this moveset...

Variant 1

Sky Attack
Double Team
@ Focus Band

Since you're using Double Team, that might give Swellow a chance to Sky Attack, in case it doesn't get damaged while raising its evasiveness. Facade has higher power than Aerial Ace even when the Pokémon is not having a status problem, and gets STAB too. The only problem would be a Pokémon copying your Double Teams.

Variant 2

Mirror Move
Double Team
@ Focus Band

Swellow has enough speed to make good use of Mirror Move. Again, you lose the ability to counter a Psych-Upper. The problem here is, since Mirror Move needs the opponent's attack to hit, there's little you can copy with it. I wonder if Mirror Move can be used against Spikes?

That's all, I guess. But i have a question... How exactly is Facade's power calculated when you are affected by a status, and have STAB on it? Does the STAB apply only to the base power (Making it 175), or to the modified power because of the status problem (Therefore, being it 210)?

Oh come on. Swellow with Facade and Guts is soo passe. Who's going to hit you with a status alterer just so you can get a massive bonus to your damage-dealing capabilites?

I dunno, couldn't you just switch Swellow into a poke that you know is going to use a stat alter move?

I never thought of that... but Facade+Guts sounds promising, if the poke has high attack and massive speed [and isn't para'd].

As for "Double teaming until you take enough damage", unless you plug all serious DV's into staying alive, you're going to go out with a single, perhaps 2, hits. Plus, if you start DT'ing, expect the foe to start Dragon Dancing or something. If they're dumb, or ignorant, though, you might see them try to Toxic a DT'er [not a common RuSa strategy, since Stalling has been shown to work like crap, 9 times in 10].

Sky Attack = yucky, don't use.
Don't worry too much about Psyche Up; most people just Dragon Dance, instead. Or Cosmic Power.

I still think you'd need a hellbent amount of luck to be able to pull off that many DT's, and live. Moveset 1 is my choice of the 3, but DT.... bleh

Swellow has speed and crap for defense. Using our rsbot logic, those stats tell us to use Choice Band and go all out on the physical attacks.

Return and Aerial Ace are solid and then a random filler of moves such as a Hidden Power, Facade, Quick Attack, or Steel Wing would work.

As much as I hate to say "go with the standard", there really aren't many options with Swellow, especially not with DT and its staying power. If you were to use DT, I'd try something like DT, Mirror Move, AA/Return, and Chesto Rest. Similar to Talen's Pidgeot only without the godly Substitute. :/

Facade would be an option, but many people don't openly Toxic something with Guts. Unless you use Wobbuffet and his Encoring power, you'll be risking switches with a pretty frail pokemon.. especially after they see that you have a Swellow.
