While I wait for the price of the Hulk game to drop to 20 bucks, I have been checking out some Cube games.
I liked Cubivore, but I hit a part where it was a real pain the ass and haven't gone back to it since.
Right now I am playing this Skies of Arcadia game. The camera work pisses me off and the random encounters make me want to strangle puppies, but the plot is entertaining and the characters are fun.
It's a good game, and pretty cheap at the used place. I guess it's a port of Dreamcast game or something, so the graphics are kinda weak, but whatever.
The graphics in this thing I played called Baiten Katos or something are excellent, as is the music. You pretty much get to choose your fights, so random encounters aren't a problem and there are no camera issues at all, because it's basically 2D. Also the battle system is timed and card-based and altogether interesting.
Unfortunately, the plot is boring, the dialog is absolutely horrible, and every time there's a cut scene, you wish you could erase the memory of it from your mind. It's almost the same plot as the Skies of Arcadia game, except that it really fucking sucks.
There is one really great plot twist in the middle, which is totally wasted on this turd of a game.
Joe Bob says do not check it out.

I haven't touched my Cube in a while except to poke around Pokémon Box. I had been busy throughout most of the year with World of Warcraft and, recently, City of Heroes. Oh, and my DS Lite. I should really get around to playing Pokémon XD again sometime. I was liking it a little better than Colosseum.
I've not played it, but most of what I heard about Baten Kaitos was positive. I think there's a few people that will want to eat your head after those remarks. And you're right, Skies of Arcadia was a Dreamcast game.
I own a bunch of games I need to play, actually. I was playing PSO Ep 1 & 2 (and 3) and that consumed most of my time for a while.
Most of the time when I turn it on now, it's so my niece can play Pac-Man World 2 (and by "play", I mean, "fart around in the first area and not really do anything").
I still want to check out Chibi-Robo. And I guess I may get Naruto 2 whenever it comes out. Zelda: Twilight Princess, though, I'll probably get the Wii version.

i liked cubivore too but i didnt have enough different evolutions or whatever to get to the last stage and they wanted me to go back and play through stuff again so i took it out of my gamecube and never put it back in
i was playing the newest harvest moon gc game but for some reason i stopped (school started or something i dont remember) and then i never played it again although i should cause it was a good game
now the only gamecube game i play is smash brothers because i like playing teams with a cpu. i also got the tom nook trophy a couple weeks ago. im missing like 4 trophies but i will never get them.
i wonder what my animal crossing town is like. they are probably all dead in their houses, slowly rotting and turning fetid or becoming dry husks.

If they liked the game, then they wouldn't have the good taste to consume my head. As I said, many things are done right, but the story and characters were so mind-blowingly lame and boring that to call them "cliche" would be criminally nice.
Terrible voice acting is to be expected, but the terrible dialog on top of it all made me want to find the writer and punch him in the nuts.
To get the last collectible item, by the way, I need to leave the game turned on by itself for 100 hours. Granted, that would be more fun than actually playing the game, but it gives you an idea of the sort of thing we're dealing with.
How does the "Online" part of PSO work? I didn't think the Cube could network. And isn't it just another thing like EverCrack?

I think I'm getting to that point. I'm at an area now where I clearly have to get the animals in the right order, and it was just too much thinking to go along with the annoying control scheme, so I just never went back to it.
(Actually, now that I think about it...it's not just the animals, it's the limbs of these multi-cultural animals...that's what made me give up.)
Does Harvest Moon have the same "timed day" think to it that HM64 had? That eventually made me bored with the whole thing. Optimizing my day was fun for only so long.
I wonder if the cute kitty who sent me a Valentine's Day card still loves me. I never did get all the insects either. Got all the fish, though.
I would have played more if the game allowed for a larger house.
Also I never did wash the car to that bitch's satisfaction.

It's possible to purchase a dial-up modem and a broadband adapter for the 'Cube. I got my Modem first at a WalMart but later had to replace it with one purchased from Nintendo's site. I assume they're still availible there. But the PSOs are the only games that used them to go online. The broadband adapter could be used for 1080 Avalanche, Kirby Air Ride and Mario Kart: Double Dash for LAN play, and there may be some tunneling software availible to get those games online unoffically; not sure what the status of the Warp Pipe project is.
And it's not really like Evercrack, either. It's more like Gauntlet, I guess. You're not in a persistant world with tons of players; you'll encounter tons of players in the lobbies on each server, but when it comes time to play, you'll go into a game with up to three other people and slay swarms of monsters in a room before moving on to the next. There's phat loot opportunities, though, which I admittedly didn't get a lot of (I wanted a Crazy Tune; a sword that looks like a guitar).
And Episode 3 is entirley different; it's basically a trading card game/tactical strategy game. I loved it, but it's been ruined by cheaters, and not many people played it, anyway. =/ It came out at the same time as Final Fantasy XI, and I think a lot of players moved to that game.

yeah you are going to want to forget about all this GameCube fecal matter and go ahead and get yourself a Dual Screen (sorry for trolling ![[Frown]](frown.gif) ). most GameCube games are only good if you hound the multiplayer shit.
also I just went against my better judgement and gave six years of steadfast evil resistance the finger and bought a PS2 slim with Guitar Hero. i fucking love music games.

I don't really like the handheld games, although that Wario thing with gyroscope looks fun.
That guitar game looks awesome. Is there a shareware version yet? Can't wait til you can play any song you want with it.
I do need a new DVD player...maybe I should pick up that bundle.

i think all harvest moon games have that timed day system where the hours go by from morning til night, unless you mean something else.
i know you don't like handhelds but the DS is really a lovely little system. it has a pretty big library, and lots of cool quirky games that i love. plus its kinda easy to get it online to play with other people, really nice for animal crossing.
animal crossing for DS has more bugs and fish, more furniture and clothes, your house can eventually have five furnishable rooms (no basement though, made up for in a better storage system). the downsides are that you have less villagers in your town, there's no island, and i think the holidays have been fooled around with. plus the online stuff is pretty neat.
warioware: twisted is a sick game. it's a GBA game so even if you don't have a DS i hope you have at least some kind of GBA somewhere so you can play this. i brought this to madagascar with me and it along with warioware: touched were a hit with the people there. even though touched is a DS game, twisted is better than touched.

I prefer the games where you wander around at your leisure. I almost picked up that Spider-Man game that lets you web around NYC only for that purpose.

yes it has a pen, yes you have to connect wirelessly to play online (this is a big hurdle for a lot of people because buying a wireless router is apparently The New Rocket Science). the system is really right up your alley, though -- there are a bunch of games where the whole point is to fuck around. i was really put off by the stylus at first too, and you know how i am about image; if something looks gay i am already shunning it way before actually giving it a chance. i was pleasantly surprised, and i now do the vast majority of my gaming on the DS.
get yourself a DS and a piracy kit to try some shit out and if you end up not liking it sell everything off and call it a rental. if you do like it, start paying for games.
edit: if by "the attachment for your cube" you mean the thing that lets you play GBA games on the cube then it will definitely play wario ware.

Actually, I'm pretty sure somebody suggested playing Twisted on a GBP in an issue of Nintendo Power, and they were told it wasn't possible. I'll try it when I get back from work. Should be fun, either way.

it is possible to play twisted on the cube but you have to hold the cube itself like a controller thats almost as big as an xbox controller

While I was waiting for some Cubanos to finish making my lunch, I wandered into the Ballbuster and they had Hulk for 20 bucks, so I picked it up.
I just turned it on and ran around during the training thing for about 10 minutes and it looks like a lot of fun.
I usually like to stick to one plot-based game at a time, so I'm going to finish up this pirate thing first, but now I should be set until Xmas or so.
Cal: yes it has a pen, yes you have to connect wirelessly to play online (this is a big hurdle for a lot of people because buying a wireless router is apparently The New Rocket Science).
I still have the tiny pipe at home because I'm lobbying for work to pay for my DSL. They might do it, although I really don't need 24 hour access to YouTube if I ever expect to get anything done.
How much is a new pen if you lose the original one? Can I get a tricked out one that glows in the dark, so I can look soopa cool?

I second the "quirky games" statement. I was bored to hell of gaming, then along came the DS. It's not like every game uses the stylus for everything, either.
I have no idea what kind of games you like, but I enjoyed Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney a lot. It's a visual-novel style game (most of the game is dialog), but it's got a really cool sense of humor, plus you can use the microphone to yell "objection!" to the court, which is way more cool than it sounds.

I played a bit of the Hulk game and it's quite good. You can spend a lot of time just aimlessly running around smashing stuff and as time goes on, you learn new ways to smash stuff.
The plot is reasonable and the missions are pretty run-of-the-mill, but the fight system is fun and not too complicated and stuff blows up real good.
So far I haven't encountered anything terribly frustrating. Some of the boss fights have been tough, but it only took a few attempts to work out a decent strategy.
The "cheat codes" are interesting. The game itself gives them to you, and then you go activate them on a special screen which makes you input them for no purpose. Once activated, you can toggle them on or off, and you never have to enter them again.
It's very convenient, but mainstreaming the cheat code system in this way feels like the Hot Topicking of punk. I'm not really complaining, just think it's interesting.

Also Metroid Prime was 5 bucks and I really wanted a game for Xmas, so I got it.
It's a pretty good game, although the lock-on control scheme fucking sucking fucking fuckballs full of fucking fuck.
If you could just move and aim at the same time, it'd be a real game.
Although I still object to FPSs where you have to use a stubby little thumbstick to aim in principle, some guy at work lent me Resident Evil 4 (the PS2 version with the extra game in it) and so I'm desensitized to suck.
RE4 is actually a great game, but it's a pity that the writing was so embarrassingly bad. I guess they figure they're writing all these things for kids, but they really must not take any pride at all in their work.
At least Metroid isn't packed with shitty dialog and voice acting. I like scanning all the organisms and generally wandering around and looking at stuff, but it's a damn shame that they went out of their way to make the interface so annoying.
It extra super sucks that they made the shitty interface part of the challenge and that the levels are designed to exploit the quirks of the shitty interface...rather than just giving you a reasonable means of looking around.
Nice looking game, though. And it allows you to turn the music off, which RE4 did not, so it's superior in that way.
But fuck that fucking lock-on bullshit.
