Hey guys I started playing Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (I have Diamond because it has Dewgongs). I have three gym badges so far. I spent $40k on pokeballs catching Girafarigs last night.
I am looking for online friends to trade pogeymans with.
anyone here play the new game for the DS?
I am more infatuated with Berry growing than anything else.

Wow guys - I really love playing pokemon Diamond.
It is just as much fun as the old Red/Blue days. Except even more because you can *easily* trade with people around the world to fill your pokedex.
also a lot more to it than just battling pokemon. There's an entire underground world, 3 different pokemon contests, online battling, Poffins (berry food making), berry cultivating.

So liek, what does it have on Gold/Silver/Crystal? I'm pondering buying this or Dragon quest monsters: Joke.
So far Joker looks more appealing.

I think there are 480 pokemon. I got a hard copy pokedex from Target so I wouldnt have to search online.
I don't plan on getting all nerdtastic into D/P, just enough to create lots of my favorite pokes to battle with.
The thing that I think D/P really has going for it is a very good, pretty balanced fighting system. Unlike Red/Blue one type doesn't rule (Psychic), there are seemingly multiple counters to any strategy, and the mix of pokemon Abilites (such as Levitating, Seeing your opponent's moves, trading status conditions) makes it theoretically possible to create okay to good teams using under used pokemon.
Also one of the things people trash the current generation: too many pokes, too many moves. I think it's a good thing: so many different moves you can choose from when building a team just provide more options to fit your playstyle. Take what you want and leave the rest.

I'm in front of the elite four right now. I think I might grind a couple levels onto my pokes before starting though. As I recall the elite four are always higher level than I thought they would be.

The game is really fun now. In the first few hours it sucked pretty hard (lame, super common pokemon everywhere, same boring sotryline, lame moves to use). If I play my Pearl cart I will start out with a dream team of my favorite pokes using pokesav.
Now though it's pretty challenging. Apparently after I beat the elite four there is still a bunch of "game" left to play even before it goes into same-old mode like previous generations.

Wow the elite four would have been really hard if I hadn't noobed it up and bought a ton of Battle items (+speed, +attack etc.) and powered up a sweeper using leech seed and heal potions.
Some of them were level 60-65 O_O
I guess that's why they give you access to catching one of the game's legendaries (Palkia or dialga) right before you fight them. I can't imagine a 7-10 year old beating them with a team of pokemon that have "Cut, Rock Smash, Strength, Waterfall, Fly" etc on their team. But I guess all it really takes is their one level 70 Charizard or Jolteon and spammable TM coverage. Ironic how in attempt to create a balanced team for type coverage I kind of weakend it's own effectiveness ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
So now there is a huge whole other part to the game that's brand new (a big new island opens up after beating the elite four). There is a battle tower, new routes and pokemon, and they give you a pokeradar that you use to catch all the pokes from the different generations.
there is even an effective method that uses the pokeradar to catch *shinies*. Check youtube if you are curious ... there is a good tutorial that's about 9:58 long that explains the process.
The gist is that you "chain" pokemon encounters of a particular pokemon breed that after a certain amount of time leads to Shinies appearing. The woman in the video said that had only used the process for a couple of days and had already caught 5 shiny pokemon with it.

I used pokesave to build two Mews (one shiny and one regular) from a .pkm file template downloaded from a host site. They are my HM slaves (four on each). I can keep them both in my party and then use the game's move deleter to remove the TM moves from my main pokes so that they can free up slots for TMS.
What's left: play through the remaining storyline, capture all the legendaries, breed my favorite pokes to near perfection, create a bunch of teams to battle with!
