So apparently someone is going to shoot my school tomorrow or bomb it or something . . . he left a note in the bathroom.

Seriously. This isn't Jack Handey's Deep Thoughts.

It's weird being this close to a possible incident. I mean there were a bunch of threats in high school and for a week of my junior year we had "lockdowns" every day at lunch. Then I guess the police realized some kid was just trying to get out of taking a test. But now it feels kind of real. I don't know if anything will happen. But I'm definitely going to class tomorrow.

I wonder why all these queefs who go on school shootings kill themselves. I mean, obviously they aren't man enough to stand up to the shame of what they've done, but if they're just going to eat a bullet then why bother making life harder for everybody else first? Just get right to the end. Pussies.

I'm kind of hoping I do get a chance to take this queef's gun away in a splendid show of heroism. But I will most likely be paralyzed by fear and do nothing. [Frown]

The same thing happened to me in my junior or senior year of high school. Some guy calls the school saying he is going to bomb it and the next thing we know every kid is out on the back field trying to figure out what has happened. Luckily, nothing serious went down that day and we all made our way home with our belongings in the classrooms. What motivates people to do that sort of thing is beyond me, but it might have to do with the perpetrators family's.

You have the same chance of dying if you stand/lie still and do nothing as you do trying to be a hero.

Good point. But nothing happened. I can't say I'm disappointed, but I had been hoping to get a chance to be a hero.

The halls were completely empty today. Made it even creepier. Like in Majora's Mask at the end of the third day: not only is that moon coming down, but nobody's there and that haunting music is playing. Except there was no music in my college.

A bunch of the advisors and cashiers stayed home today, and at one point I checked the security office and it was closed up with noone inside. Great. Way to go, security. You guys are exactly the right people to get chicken-shit and stay home.

Leaving notes is to shootings as slitting wrists is to suicide.

You were hoping for people to get shot up so you could be a hero? What's wrong with you?

That's why I said "I can't say I'm disappointed," because I'd rather noone was shot.

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to be a hero.

quote:
cogito, do you know what people like you really do? >_> You thrive on being deceptive.
First of all, what the hell are you talking about? That sentence is painfully ambiguous. Do you mean I made this story up?
http://www.komotv.com/news/local/7757477.html
Second, what do you know about "people like me?" I've made about a dozen posts on this forum. Some of them fewer than 4 sentences. Are you ready to make judgment on what kind of person I am based on that much information?

Anyway, I want to get back to the subject of heroism. I feel we're living in an age of supervillains: School shootings, Enron and other corporate evildoers, ridiculously corrupt governments, etc. I think we need superheroes to stand up and fight for justice, and I think the best place to look for these superheroes is within ourselves.
There are tremendous risks involved in being a superhero, of course. Particularly when one does not have superpowers or even any kind of protection such as financial security, he is extremely vulnerable, and the prospect of fighting injustice seems laughable.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said "I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn't fit to live." I wholeheartedly agree.

They're only "supervillains" in the sense that they used to be (and for much of the world still are) the rule and now they're the exception.

I'm not entirely sure if this is supposed to be metaphorical, but the notion of crusading around Batman-style is delusional. Humans are fragile; take one bullet in the wrong place or take a bit of a fall and you're wasted.

You do realize that people fight for justice all the time, right? You sound like you want the glory more than the justice.

In other news, I'm gonna study genetics and make the pogeymans real for the good of mankind ok guys

That's actually what I was saying. Sorry I made it unclear. By the way, Batman Begins was exactly what made me revive my interest in being a superhero.

I do want glory, fortunately however glory and justice are not mutually exclusive. So it doesn't really matter which one I want more because ideally I never have to sacrifice one for the other. If I did it would be glory which gets the boot.
I think if all I wanted were glory I would be one of the bad guys. Shooting up the school is glorious kind of, right? Being on top, whatever the cost. That kind of mentality.

I can't speak for every person who does this, but when I was in middle school we had a bomb threat that turned out to be a distraction. While we were all waiting a safe distance away from the school, someone sneaked in and stole the two Nintendos in the school's break room.

Crim, some people are just like that. Where I live people do that every day and it saddens me that people like that are not in jail already for being lazy, dumb, and stupid. Not to mention that when I was in High School we never got a bomb threat since or before the incident that I described. Anyway, it is really weird (and sad, plus a hundred other emotions) that people actually do these types of things, if only for attention or popularity.

You are stretching there. In former times I would have argued in the interest of dissuading you from your insane opinions, but I have been sufficiently convinced of the unconvincability of fellows like yourself and the unlikelihood of you actually confronting somebody with a gun that I am presently arguing moreso out of a sort of perverse fascination with a brand of lunacy I have not previously observed. But if the former comes to pass, hey good for you.

You have one strange conception of glory.

Everything you say smacks badly of adolescent naivete. If you were ever actually insane enough to try to make good on your fantasies, you'd have failed, given it up or gotten killed within a week.

edit: or maybe you are still an adolescent, since you only joined in 2005, in which case this has all been pointless

COGITO: Give it up, Superjerks! You'll never stop my ingenious plan from proceeding as planned!

[COGITO RAISES HIS HAND UP DEFIANTLY, CLUTCHING A SMOKE BOMB. HE HURLS IT AT THE EARTH IN FRONT OF HIM, RAISING A FOGGY SCREEN NO MAN COULD SEE THROUGH]

SUPERMAN [THROUGH THE FOG]: Stop this madness now, Cogito, while you still can.

FLASH [LOOKING DOWN PUZZLED]: Full power, huh? Well, at least this gets me out of the house.

WONDER WOMAN: Hang on, Flash, we don’t know what kind of crazy tricks Cogito has up his sleeve!

BATMAN [CROUCHING, LOOKING AT OBJECT, PICKS IT UP AND SNIFFS AT IT]: It’s a small piece of lanolin, a kind of wax secreted by mammals with wool.

FLASH: [TURNING TO LOOK AT BATMAN, EYEBROWS FURROWED] How did you -- No, you know what? Don’t even tell me.

SUPERMAN: Cogito, listen, please. Give this nonsense up and come with us, peacefully. I give you my word you will be tried justly and impartially. Please, Cogito, a piece of wax isn’t going to save you!

COGITO [GRINNING]: A piece of wax, you say? Ha ha! That might be how your mind perceives it! I on the other hand, might take it for… a bear!!!

[THE WAX TRANSFORMS ALMOST INSTANTANEOUSLY INTO A LARGE, HULKING BEAR MADE OF LANOLIN]

LANOLIN BEAR [RUSHING TOWARDS THE SUPERFRIENDS]: ROOOAAAAAAAARRRR!!!

[LANOLIN BEAR CRASHES INTO THE SUPERFRIENDS, SCATTERING THEM LIKE SO MANY NOVELTY BOWLING PINS]

FLASH [ASTONISHED]: How the heck did he do that??

COGITO [WRINGING HIS HANDS AND HOPPING IN PLACE]: Ha ha ha, Super Flakes, I simply must think something, anything, and it will be!

WONDER WOMAN SNARES LANOLIN BEAR WITH HER LASSO OF TRUTH. WHEN SHE PULLS TO REIGN IT IN, THE LOOP SLICES THROUGH THE BEAR’S MIDSECTION, FREEING IT FROM ITS NORMALLY INESCAPABLE GRASP ]

WONDER WOMAN [SHOCKED]: Gasp!

[LANOLIN BEAR, HESITATING FOR ONLY A BRIEF MOMENT, LOCKS HIS VISION ONTO WONDER WOMAN BEFORE LEAPING HIGH INTO THE AIR AND SLAMMING HIS FULL WEIGHT DOWN ONTO THE STUNNED WONDER WOMAN , WHO BECOMES ENGULFED IN LANOLIN BEAR’S WAXY BODY]

ok I cant do this any more

I think I read somewhere that you know you're an asshole when you think of chicks getting into trouble so you can save them so that later you will get Lays like the chips.

And basically this is the same thing. Because really, the only part about heroism that anyone cares about is the pussy.

But I seriously doubt even your horniest ambitions would have amounted to much had your school been VT'd. I'm sure there's plenty of testosterone-sufficient jocks who would've taken the ho down.

That middle sentence is a little confusing; did you say anything other than "Wow, you're fucked up?"

Lacrosse is a sport. I have no idea what case you mean, but I doubt it has anything to do with justice.
I can't imagine why you think I lack the "strength of mind," or why it would even be relevant. Could you give an example of what you mean (or explain your previous example)?
Is it that you doubt I would sacrifice glory for justice because you doubt that the average schmo would do so? Or is it me, personally?

You have one strange conception of glory.
Okay, you're right, that's not glory, but I'm not really sure what else to call it. Forget it. I actually wish I hadn't said anything. My bad.

Not everything I say sounds naive, but other than that this is all true.

I'm going to try again to summarize my opinion without sounding quite so insane:

I want to be proud of the world I live in. I also want "the world" to be proud of me.
I think that I ought to do something to realize both of these desires.

Had there been any kind of shooting at my community college, I think the appropriate way to have "realized my desires" would have been to attempt some kind of crazy heroics. However, I understand that I would probably have died had I done so, because I am not a superhero. I also understand I would probably not have done so, because I'm really just a great big pussy.

Since your entire post is just an overwhelmingly intricate jab at me, I probably shouldn't respond to it as a serious post. Still, you said a couple of things that made me want to respond.
quote:
believes in a benevolent god
Wow. Were you serious? Where did you get that? I actually believe that if everyone were to rely on God to do anything right, this world would be completely and totally fucked. God isn't going to do shit for you. God isn't going to do shit for me . God isn't going to do shit for the world as a whole.
quote:
I simply must think something, anything, and it will be!
Let me know if I'm reading into this too much; this seems to be your only real point here. You're saying I'm naive, right?

As for the whole Majora's Mask thing, I guess I shouldn't include humor in a serious post, because I'm obviously not very good at it anyway.

all right i have to break down the "joke" into its component parts, which, much like when a perfectly symmetrical flawless fossil of the most-beautiful mother of all modern sea urchins reveals her final secret to the universe in a puff of argon, will destroy it.

you: cogito

cogito: Latin, "I think"

places one might see cogito: the well-known statement: Cogito, ergo sum

cogito, ergo sum: see: rene descartes

i'm through ripping the organs out of my post like a budding sociopath in summer school biology so please try to infer the rest with what you perceive with your mind. the only part of it that that might be making fun of you is the fact that it's about superheroes, since you are majoring in theoretical bravery. i assumed that someone calling themselves "cogito" would have some sort of interest in descartes or even philosophy in general, but now i can tell that you've named yourself after a little hispanic gear.

cogito:If someone leaves Azure Heights it is "evidence enough" that he is insane? Stop making inane, nonsensical posts.

1. I never said or even implied that you were insane. I did, however, say that anything you post in this topic should be taken with a grain of salt because you make such ill-founded, uninformed posts, and I should've said that no one who is in their right mind should take anything you say seriously.

2. If anything you should be happy that I have pointed out to others that you shouldn't be taken seriously because of the way you present yourself and the 'arguments' you put forth as valid. The kind of thing that really gets to me is that you think that what you post in here has any bearing on reality. The facts are against you and your posts, and you still are under the delusion that what you say makes any sense except to yourself.

That being said I love how you twist my words around to mean something that they aren't, and for someone who says for me to stop making nonsensical, and inane posts you sure have had your fair share of nonsensical/inane posts in this here topic.

I'm done with you..for now.
