link to espn.com story

His message is of course "duh"ly correct, it just pisses me off that he'd take the position of moral supervisor over private institutions such as the NFL and MLB. Next he'll be telling girl scouts to lower the fat content of the cookie formerly known as "Samoan" with the argument that " selling cookies with excessive fats isn't good kharma." Get back in your box, Mr. President.

I don't want to jack your thread, but I've often wondered what the results would be when it comes to drugs that increase mental abilities at the expense of health (much as steroids increase physical abilities, supposedly at the expense of health).

The closest thing we have is basically caffiene, which only increases people's mental ability if they are tired (raising it toward normal), and doesn't have many health effects (the few it does have are certainly all negative though, they just aren't a big deal).

I mean, who here would take a drug that could like, give you brain cancer, but you'd be way smarter and have a photographic memory?

(There is some studies being done in a drug that would basically help your memory, but I don't think they are intended as lifestyle drugs)

The only reason I think they would be illegal is the same reason that radar detectors are illegal in commercial vehicles: that would become the new standard.

But any money says the government would have tanks of nerds ready to go with this stuff.

Anyway, about Bush's statements:

I'm a Libertarian, so clearly I think he's being an idiot about it. But he's so deeply buried in wrong thinking (ironically, possibly from all his drug abuse of both legal and illegal drugs) that there's barely any use in talking about it.

So what if he urges athletes to not take drugs, it's better than saying he DOES urge them to take drugs...

Like every drug that I think of save steroids and caffeine makes you stupider at the expense of health.
