DVs, deter values, and genes all refer to the same thing: two random bytes (really four numbers from 0-15 picked at random) generated when you catch a monster. The stat formula is such that they end up being doubled and added to your stats at level 100 (their value is added to your monsters base value in each area). Because they are generated when the monster is caught, there is no way to improve them through the game. For this reason there is contreversy when people modify them with the shark, as you can easily give yourself a monster that you would normally only have a 1/65536 chance of getting otherwise.------------------ -cfalcon "The story ends here" -The Legend of Zelda
