a person from another ubb posted this code:
quote:
I was surfing in the seafoam islands, the coast along the water, when i decided i had to fly back to viridian to talk to the person again, but i had to go answer the door, and my brother was mad at me cause i wouldn't let him answer it, so he went over to my gameboy, realized that i was about to fly to viridian, and made me fly to cinnibar, and then released my flying guy. I came back, beat him up ( ) and then resumed my game. Then i went over to the pokemon center, only it was a different building this time! It said "MEW2" on the sign instead of "POKE"!

so i went in to explore, and as soon as i took two steps forward into the building, i got into a wild pokemon battle, and it was a Mew! i had a master ball in my inventory, so i caught it! it was at level 5, but see if it works for you! I have no clue what i did, but i now have another mew!

that's really not enough information to test it, and we'll need to know more.

What pokemon was he using?
Did he fight Missingno at all on the seafoam islands before his brother made him fly to Cinnebar island?
When he says his brother "released" his flying guy does that me his brother went IN the pokecenter and actually released the pokemon? If so, then did the sign change to Mew2 after he stepped out?

More information would be needed, and I don't know who posted this but it seems pretty far-fetched to me.

No, this person is very known at that board. He said he was trying to find another kind of Missingno at Seafoam, his brother flew him to Cinnibar, went into the Center, and was about to release the bird when he stopped him. Then I believe he went to Viridian r maybe he just stayed at Cinnibar. He saw the MEW2 on there, he walked a couple steps into the center and he encountered the Mew. This was all from memory so some parts might not be exactly accurate. We are still tryiong to get all the info from him. Believe me, he wasn't just trying to get attention.

eh... there's an easy enough way to prove if this code is true or not. The "sign" on the front of the PKMN center is actually a "tile." If you have ever read the "Glitch City" thread you may have noticed that in a couple of Meowth346's posts he mentioned that he made a map of all the tiles in the game. So, if this "code" is true, then there is a tile somewhere in the ROM that looks like a sign that says "MEW2." If you want to know if there is, you should go ask Meowth. I personally think this code is a pile of rubbish, though.

Yikes! This could be an all-new glitch... or something. I dunno. I'm tired. *yawn* I'm going to bed.

What's that? It's only lunch time? Oh. *sigh*

Well, this is kinda freaky. Which Pkmn center was it again? The one in Cinnabar, or the one in Viridian?

Ok here's the full walkthrough on how he did it. He talked to and said no to the man, flew to Fuchsia City, swan down to the Seafoam without battling any Pokemon/trainers, fought one Missingno and beat it, fly to Cinnibar, go to release the bird you had in your team, but select no and get it back, then fly to Viridian City, the sign should have MEW2 on it, walk inside for a while and you should find one. I tries it and it didn't work, but I also didn't beat the Missingno. Does the cartridge number matter? The number embroidered in the label. Mine is 22 and he said he had 2.

If you check this image, here, you can see all of the text on graphics for Map Tiles in the game. I could map out the whole game to prove that there's no text, "MEW2", but that would take too long, maybe a good 5 to 10 minutes.

This could be left over from something else to programmers wanted to put in. Such as a sign that said "MEW2" in front of a cave.

Is there a tool for viewing all of the tiles in a GameBoy ROM? I have one that lets you view all the tiles in a NES ROM so I'm sure one must exist.

Tlayer works for GB ROMs, and you can switch to one bitplane for text... Keep in mind that some graphics may be compressed, in which case, you won't be able to see them without writing a program to decompress them first.

I used TLayer, and anyone who has TLayer and a ROM can easily view every map tile. Map tiles are not compressed in any way, shape, or form, and you can easily see that there is no sign, nor anything else, with the text "MEW2" drawn onto it.
