I've tried it myself on my Silver, and it works all right.
Also, the Mystery Gift option disappears from the start menu.
Everything appears the same if you switch the Game Boy off and put it back on, though.
Maybe someone should try doing this and going to the shrine in the Ilex Forest?
I bet Celebi'd be there!

The UPN thread mentioned that it brought out the full colours of Ho-oh/Lugia in the title screen.

There was a weird glitch involving reading a certain sign on the ROM when using the PR Translations patch that did the same thing.

It does NOT colour in Lugia. Ho-oh is still programmed into the game, but Lugia's colouration was either removed or never put in. And when you do this particular trick, or several others, your Ho-oh can be off-colour...greenish, blueish, etc.
