Now, this might be the most confusing attack ever concocted by the yellow rodent-obsessed minds of Nintendo and Game Freak...

Now, I perfectly understand how a Pokemon can have an attack of a different type depending on their stats, mostly attack and defense ratings. What I do NOT understand is whether Hidden Power is attack or special based.

1. Is it attack or special based?

2. If it is a fire/water HP, will it be affected by Sunny Day or Rain Dance?

3. Since the attack is a normal type, does Pink Bow or Polkadot Bow affect the base power rating?

4. Being a normal-type attack, will a normal Pokemon get a STAB?

5. Let's say it's an Electric HP, will Magnet affect it (same with other items and corresponding moves..)?

6. If it's a (insert type attack here) attack, and it is against a type that's immune to this attack, will it have an effect?

7. Being a normal-type attack, will it have effect on ghost-type Pokemon?

Whew...

Edit: Sorry about the sig...like I said, you guys have no worthwhile UBB code. =P

3.Nope
4.Nope
5.Again, I think it will be..
6.Nope
7.It's effectiveness is based on what type of move it is, and it's not normal.. so yes.

PLEASE get rid of the sig.. it didn't work.. at all...

1. depends on the type
2. yes
3. no, the corresponding item does (ie. charcoal+Fire Power)
4. I don't think there's a NORMAL DV. Correct me if I'm wrong. Even if there was, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU EVEN CONSIDER HIDDEN POWER?!?
5. yes...look at #3
6. no
7. depends on the type of Hidden Power it is, and look at #4.

I've been playing around with Hidden Power, and I like this attack. Anyone have info on my question? It's on the topic list.

No, I meant thinking about Hidden Power on a Normal type, which doesn't exist.

And, of ourse, here's my general recommendations for Hidden Powers:

Fighting - get Ghost
Fire - get Grass
Electric - get Ice
Psychic - get Fire
Dark - get Psychic/Flying
Dragon - DON'T NEED
Steel - get Flying (if you're Steelix)
Normal - get Flying
Grass - get Water/Rock
Water - get Ground
Ground - get Flying
Rock - get Flying
Bug - get Rock
Ice - get Water
Poison - get Fighting
Ghost - get Dark

Oh well.

I'll also mention that it can be Countered, no matter what type it is.

And a countered Hidden Power is BAD NEWS! I remember you posting about your poor Zapdos's Ice Power being countered by a Sandslash! LOL!

I have a few questions of my own:

Is it true that Hidden Power can get STAB? I've heard otherwise.

Can Mirror Coat counter damage by this attack?

I am pretty sure that Counter only works against HP and not Mirror Coat.

What I would like to know is if a Pokemon uses electric HP can the person getting hit by the attack get paralized

hidden power does get stab depending on its type. (i.e. jolteon w/ electric hp gets stab)

counter ignores hidden power's type (always counters it).

mirror coat also ignores hidden power's type (never counters it).

normal type hidden power does not exist.

For Counter and Mirror Coat, it ALWYS counts as physical, even if it's an elemental HP (Ice, Psychic, etc.)

Otherwise, it works exzactly lilke a genuine attack of the appropriate element.

For exampple, HP Water base 40 is affected by Counter not Mirror Coat, but is otherwise identical to Water Gun (except possibly in PP, I'm too lazy to go check). Squirtle gets STAB with it, can boost it with Rain Dance, can boost it more with Mystic Water, etc.

Wouldn't that be the next possible step at evolving Hidden Power to a potent move? I myself would love to paralyze someone with an electric Hidden Power. They should take the special abilities from the prominent powerful attacks like Psychic and Iron Tail and make it possible for Hidden Power to do the same.

I was thinking about that the other day...

Next step to making it a potent move? It already is one.. bordering on cheap, not b/c of it's dominance, but b/c it changes basic game strategy (who's weak to who, etc).

It's not "totally" cheap...you can always Counter it! Counter is THE anti-HP! It just adds more dynamics to the game, don't you think?

Again, just to reiterate:

HP is attack based if the type is physical, and special if it is special. ie. Dragon type HP would be based on special, while Flying type HP would be physical.

HP will be affected by conditions such as the power boosters, Sunny Day/Rain Dance, and STAB, depending on what type the HP is. ie. Electric type HP will get a 10% power boost with Magnet and Water type HP suffer a 50% damage penalty with Sunny Day.

HP's "Normal type" is really the same as that of Curse and Struggle: Typeless, but unlike the other two attacks, the HP uses the type chart for effectiveness. ie. Psychic HPs don't work against Dark Pokémon.

HP does not have any other side effects. ie. it cannot cause type changes, status changes, statistic changes, or sudden PokéRus killing.

Finally, for those of you who haven't read any PokéMechanics Document, HP is gene based.

Amazing, he didn't link to his site! I don't think Hidden Power is counted as a Conversionable move, but it might be.
