My swing state predictions:
Bush wins: Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, Missouri, West Virginia, Ohio (just barely) Kerry wins: New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota Too close to call: New Mexico, Iowa, Wisconsin, Florida
Electoral vote totals, based on above: Bush: 247 Kerry: 242 Too close: 49
If Kerry wins Florida and Bush wins the other three, it's a 269-269 tie.

David Cobb is not on the ballot. Or Michael Badnarik.
Anyway, if it were reality, I'd vote for Kerry, since PA is a swinger state.
I'd vote for Cobb otherwise.

A tie isn't as interesting as it could be, because then it just goes to Congress who is/will be Republican. We've gotta get rid of this stupid electoral college.
Anyway, the guy I swapped votes with voted this morning, so I claimed a strong Nader vote in the poll.
In actuality, it was a weak Kerry vote.
But none of ya'll can bitch at me when Jeb hands the state over to his simian brother this time. The only way to leave a paper trail is to vote absentee.
My grandparents tried that, and only one of them got their ballot.
This country is bullshit.

Bush is currently up 102-77, although West Virginia is the only swing state that's been called (i.e. we still know nothing). Popular vote is 55-44 for Bush.
Kerry was leading in Ohio for awhile, but Bush just pulled ahead 51-49 (4% of precincts reporting).
Bush is up 56-43 in Florida (39%). Kerry is up 66-33 in Pennsylvania (1%).
Edit: Right after I posted, Bush grabbed the whole Texas-North Dakota column, while Kerry got New York. (Again, no surprises.) 155-112 Bush [ 11-02-2004, 09:03 PM: Message edited by: White Cat ]

Yup. The pussy... er, vagina... er, Bush, seems like he's taking the polls SO FAR. (Whatever you wanna call it, it's all female genetalia.)
For what it's worth, I voted absentee for Texas (from Yokelhoma). It's counted.
Voting for Texas, despite the "liberal media" claiming it's a swing state, I needn't say WHO I voted for. Y'all can hate me for that. I still love you guys, tho.
And, despite the "liberal media" tag, every channel I'm watching is sure reporting pro-pussy results. They weren't BEFORE any of the states were "decided". They were actually blatantly pro-Kerry in every election "poll", interview, etc. But they're reporting Bush in the lead right now. A surprising turnabout, I believe, no matter who you voted for. Not that it's the TRUTH. But they freely admit no one knows the truth yet. Good on 'em.

Uh... Texas is a swing state? I trust you're being facetious? (Unless you're just comparing it to that other famous swing state, Massachusetts )
Once again, I reiterate that until we see results from the swing states (or dramatic reversals from the non-swing ones), we have no idea who's going to win.

Sama's razor wit seems to have dulled considerably...
With 85% of Florida precincts reporting, Bush is ahead 52-47, or 250,000 votes. However, apparently Florida has over a million absentee ballots which most likely won't be counted until tomorrow at the earliest, and both parties are claiming they have the advantage there.
Bush is ahead in Ohio by the same margin with 35% reporting. Kerry leads Pennsylvania 60-40 with 53% reporting.
Kerry is holding Iowa and Minnesota, while Bush is ahead in Wisconsin and Michigan (early results all around). If Bush wins both, it'll allow him to win even if Kerry takes Florida or Ohio.
Oh, and with 49% reporting, Bush is leading in New Hampshire by nine votes.

Well, unless there's a major difference in the absentee ballots, Bush has got Florida. He's also leading in Ohio by 120,000 votes (51-49, 74% reporting).
If these two stay in the Bush column, the only way Kerry can win is if he keeps all four northern Midwest states and New Mexico, and picks up both New Hampshire and Nevada. All of those except Minnesota are extremely close right now.

Yes, because the most important thing in a democracy is that it is vitally important to not count the votes.
Despite White Cat being desperately stupid for no purpose again, however, it looks like Bush actually won this time.
Well, who really needed all those gains civilized society made in the 20th century? Seriously, why would anyone want peace, properity, and freedom...that's like, so 1996.

This is a huge victory for religious nuts, hicks, rednecks, nascar fans, and uneducated white trash in general.
That's cool though. Its obviously just my imagination that the country was ripped apart over the last 4 years by incompetant leadership.
We aren't really in the middle of a clusterfuck of a war (That I originally supported back when I had faith the President wouldn't outright lie to us about Saddam being a threat)
The President didn't actually call for an amendment to the constitution to openly discriminate against a segment of the population.
We're not sitting at record levels of debt with record levels of spending.
90% of the world must not actively hate us. And the relationships with our closest allies aren't being strained at all.

The problem seems to be that idiot Merkins (like MK and White Cat, except for the nationality) don't like to think and love nothing more than to be given instructions that should not be questioned.
They don't like a guy who says "Well, there are a lot of ideas out there and, with your help, I'm going to pick the best one to solve each problem we encounter". That's too much work.
They like an idiot (like Reagan, Bush II, Schwarzenegger) who says "Well, gollee, I don't know much bowt no fancy book-learnin' neether, but I gots me a plan and I don't want none of y'alls to think bowt it! Also yeehaw."
And then people like Karl Rove, who could never get elected, control the planet, and the population is sedate and pliable and weak and all is well with the upper class...
You will no longer get anywhere by treating the voters with respect. The sooner Democrats realize that the masses are not worth their respect, or even making a half-assed attempts to be truthful to, the sooner we can crawl out of the Dark Ages. [ 11-03-2004, 10:32 AM: Message edited by: Mr. K ]

It's interesting how K assumes that if I don't like the idea of weeks of lawsuits and counter-lawsuits and half the population believing that whichever side wins is illegitimate for the next four years, I must be a Bush fan.

It depends on what he's asked. I'd probably whine a lot too if I were running for president and the first two questions pitched at me every day for months were "Why are you running?" and "Will you drop out?".
He's gotten pretty good about sneaking bits of his platform into responses to questions like this, but usually he gets cut off, because no one cares.

I really hate that argument. If the primary parties are really so concerned about third party candidates throwing the election for the other candidate, they'd support state legislation for Approval or Condorcet voting and possibly a constitutional amendment to eliminate the electoral college.
As far as I'm concerned, the only wasted vote is one for a candidate you don't support. The fact that plurality voting makes people believe they have to vote for the least of two evils rather than who they favor means if you're looking for wasted votes, you should be looking somewhere other than the third party candidates.
By the way, his name is Nader.

At least he's getting media attention. That's a luxury among third party candidates. Badnarik was on 48 state ballots, but he didn't receive any media attention. I don't know if any media even reported that he and Cobb were arrested for trying to participate in the second presidentional commercial, er, debate.
(I don't know how many states Nader was on the ballot in, but according to cnn.com he wasn't on at least Arizona, California, and Georgia, so that's already fewer states than Badnarik.)

Nader should have run, just like Perot should have run. People should have voted for Nader, just like people should have voted for Perot. Perot was allowed to debate. Nader should have, too. Unfortunately, he wasn't. I'd love to see a 3rd party candidate win again, some day. They have in the past. The DISTANT past...
Yes, the electoral college is pretty stone age. A couple states have at least managed to split the electoral votes, based on districts. Still doesn't work. The electoral college simply must go. Whoever the hell that dude was stating this was a big victory in proving the reliability of the electoral college... WTF?!? I voted for Bush (hate me) and I'm glad he won, but if anything, this election only proved the electoral college has GOT to GO! Let the PEOPLE decide who wins, not the states, not points, not districts. I don't care if every candidate I believe in and vote for loses every election, as long as it's the majority of the PEOPLE who determine the president, dammit!
jivera: ...presidentional commercial, er, debate.
Yup. Again, no matter who you support, that was fucking EMBARASSING! After that, I almost didn't want to vote. Both candidates allowed to participate kept sinking lower and lower. "Oh, by the way, it's completely off-topic and extremely rude to bring this up, but SHE'S a lesbian! Vote for me!" "Mommy! He's pointing fingers again! Vote for me!" *spit*
"I look like a donkey. That makes me the perfect democrat. Vote for me!" "I look like a monkey. People love monkeys. It says so in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back! Vote for me!"
At least, by not being allowed to participate, Nader was not allowed to degrade himself like that. Fucking politicians. If they made up 90% of our population, the world WOULD be better if 90% of the people just died.

The proposed lawsuits were about trying to get all the votes in Ohio counted. If you complain about people who want to count all the votes, I am apt to make fun of you.
I don't know the details of this year's lawsuits, but last time the Democrats also tried to stop various probably-for-Bush votes from being counted.
As for who I'd support, that's a tough one. I don't like a lot of things that Bush has done, most notably the Patriot Act and related increases in government power. Early this year, I was thinking that I'd rather have Kerry win.
But then I started looking at his platform, and realized that Kerry really isn't any better on the issues I disagree with Bush (not only did he vote for the Patriot Act, but he also co-authored a significant section of it). Plus, he adds a whole bunch of new stuff I don't like, such as more trade protectionism (which affects Canada a lot more than the Patriot Act does).
So as a Canadian, I'm glad that Bush beat Kerry. If I was an American, though, I probably would've voted for Badnarik or something.

...but you chose to take a knee-jerk Republican party response to them. That's what I was mocking.

Yeah n00b
And I agree, Anthrax. Kerry/Edwards just didn't fit the bill. How the fuck were they supposed to win any swing red states with a couple of weak Northeaster douchebags? Part of the reason why Clinton won 2 elections was because he was a solid Southern Dem, and those people, for some part, voted accordingly.

hmmm...
A search on Google reveals this was done regarding the 2000 elections with Gore vs. Bush. Apparently, it was a hoax then, so I'd say it's just as much of a hoax now.
