Are there any reasons you won't let us have avatars or images in our sigs? I know of sites that force sizes onto each so that they cann't throw off formatting...

But anyway, no there are no reasons whatsoever why I won't let you clutter up the forum with little pr0n images. None at all. I'm just completely unreasonable.

I see no point in cluttering up a nice, neat forum with a bunch of pointless pictures that will serve no purpose except to slow down loading time. As if the forum wasn't cluttered enough already with the junk the new software has added. But that's just my opinion, and I don't count for anything.

I'm pretty sure there's a LOT of stuff in UBB 6.0 that K's already disabled besides avatar... I think the member ratings are the only feature added. (The new look isn't a new feature IMO.) Does UBB 6.0 have polls like vBulletin?

And if there aren't, I think AH should switch over to phpBB or vBulletin... I know both of them push that they can reformat UBB databases.

Avatars are a maintenance problem anyway...I don't want to spend time deleting your stupid pr0n or "Jivera Sucks!" images. If I allow outside links, there are going to be all kinds of broken links, slowing down page-loading even more. And I'm not going to store everyone's avatar on our server. It's just a lot of trouble, for no real purpose.

I think the member ratings are the only feature added.

Cutting the storage size in half would be another.

It's just a little picture under where those stupid stars are now. So I could have a little Koffing or something there.

It's kinda neat, and I'd turn it on if I knew people wouldn't abuse it, but they will, so I won't. Too much work for something that's cute, but useless.

Polls would be annoying, because they would clutter the joint up and immediately be used for what we've seen current polls used for..."Who's the coolest Azure personality?", etc.

I thought for a moment they might have a use for something like determining rules for a Pokemon challenge or something, but even then they're not useful because only the people involved in the match should be voting. A discussion thread is much more useful.

The closest thing we have to a poll now is the user ratings, which you turned off. I guess you're just not interested in the options I have provided you.

vBulletin costs a fraction of UBB...

So buy one and start your own forum. This UBB is paid for.

...and phpBB is free.

...and it's virtually identical to the UBB.

I dunno even know why I'm wasting my time...

Well I, for one, do not immediately want to have buttsex0r with any boards I see that have avatars. I think they just make a board look slightly cluttered, like CrystalMeth says.

Azure has always been the best laid-out forum I have seen, and having crappy little pictures of anime characters (or whatever) stuck along the left-hand side won't make it any more so.

Another thing that sucks about avatars is if people post very short messages (as they often do), they look all stupidly-formatted, because the avatar is taking up too much space on the left.

Anyway, Jiv, before you waste any time responding to the above, pay attention:

It's just like when they ban beer in some stadiums and gum in movie theatres and theme parks...the management doesn't do these things because they are fascist sons of bitches who want to prevent you from enjoying simple pleasures...they do it because it's the practical thing to do when there is a big problem caused by something that's not worth the trouble...

...just like when I had to turn off the post count, to stem the endless tide of "This is my 100th post!" messages.

As far as I can see adding the avatar option to the forum will only create the opportunity for people to make pointless conversation on eachothers avatars, like the ratings have done.

Azure Heights has always been the best looking forum, in my opinion, and it doesn't need these avatars and icons cluttering the place up, and removing a part of the forums unique-ness (is that a word, ah, who cares).

I like the way this forum flows. It's one of the quickest vbulletin's on the net. Enabling the avatars would undoubtedly hinder that. Besides, like most people have already pointed out, most people would slap porno pictures below their names. *Looks at pornbot"

Gamewinners has just recently upgraded to Vbulletin. Al has already disabled the PM, custom rankings, member rankings, and avatars. He has left the color text on, though. What a fun thing indeed....

Basically, we can live without the little pictures, people. We have for this long. I guess it's the thing about knowing something is there, and knowing you can't have it. Deal with it.

This is UBB, not vBulletin. :P

It doesn't bother me that font stuff is disabled... I think some of it ends up looking just plain stupid when people insist on using poor contrasting colours.

Looks like I'm not the only one that's argued with K.

But seriously...I know what's bad “about avatars is if people post very short messages,” but can you/what if you disable the “i have mah pwn avatar i r 1337!” function, and only make it (by restricting the size to like 32×32 or something) so we can use this size for avatars or smaller?

You could have it that we can only have pokémon avatars as well—

This just came to me! You wouldn't even have to find new pics to kill both birds with one stone!

They just came standard with the next version of the UBB. Kinda like the rating thing, I thought I'd just leave it on, cos it's kinda fun and easy to implement.

Of course, anything that can be abused will be abused.

About the first 6 polls were "Do polls suck?".

Personally I think the polls are pretty useless, because the thread is the interesting part. I usually check out the polls once, when the thread is new and only a few people have voted. I never remember to see what people said like a week later, when the results might be interesting.

I don't think the polls have been all that disruptive (deleting threads is easy), but I am considering nuking the user ratings what with all the "X gets a 5!" posts.

Oh great, some user I've never heard of is giving some other dude I've never heard of a 5 because he posted a picture of a squirrel. Joy.
