GKM Theory for Equivariant Cohomology

Friday, October 1, 2021, 5:00pm
Ungar Building Room 402

Abstract:

When a variety X is acted on by a torus T, one can study its equivariant cohomology by examining the cohomology of a particular fiber bundle. In this talk, we will use the theory Goresky, Kottwitz and MacPherson (GKM) to identify a labelled graph made of the T-action orbits which turns the problem of computing equivariant cohomology into a combinatorial puzzle. We shall give many examples and, as time permits, discuss some related problems in combinatorics.
