Representation Theory and Algebraic Geometry

Friday, October 26th, 2018, 5:00pm
Ungar Building Room 402

The problem of classification of representations of wild algebras is
considered by many as hopeless, and several of the classical tools of
representation theory cannot be applied in this case. In the first part of
the talk, we will discuss how algebraic geometry can be used to approach
this problem. In the second part, we will introduce the terminology
required to understand an important theorem of A. Bondal which says that
the study of coherent sheaves on algebraic varieties is, in some important
cases, equivalent to the study of representations of quivers with
relations. Time permitting, we will discuss how quivers can be used to
categorify the concept of a perverse sheaf.
