Examples of the Cyclic Sieving Phenomenon

Friday, November 30th, 2018, 5:00pm
Ungar Building Room 402

The Cyclic Sieving Phenomenon (CSP) occurs when the generating function of
a finite set counts cyclic symmetry classes of the set when evaluated at
roots of unity. Since Reinner, Stanton, White first introduced CSP in
2004, a surprising number of occurrences of CSP have been found. While
many CSPs can be proved combinatorially, in this talk we shall discuss how
representation theory is perhaps a more natural setting.
