Math Placement Guide

Students will be eligible to enroll in a specific course if they meet at least one of the criteria indicated in the table below.

Please consult with your Academic Advisor regarding the Mathematics requirement for your major and degree program. Also, refer to the University of Miami Academic Bulletin.

The College of Engineering requires all entering freshmen to complete the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment in order to be placed in a Mathematics course.

The School of Business requires all incoming freshmen to complete ALEKS. Please refer to the Business Freshmen Registration website for more information.

* Students in the School of Music, in a Bachelor of Music program, who wish to be exempt from the MTH 101 requirement must place into MTH 113 or higher on the basis of a Math SAT or Math ACT score or on the basis of a proctored ALEKS assessment.
