MTH 103 B2 - Finite Mathematics
Fall 2007

Note- This syllabus is tentative and subject to change, and is intended only as a rough guide for what may be covered in this semester.  Not all subjects may be covered, and additional subjects may also be added.

Chapter 12: Logic (Sections 1-6)
    Topics covered: Introduction to logic, statements, connectives, symbolic logic, truth tables, implication, order of precedence, logical equivalence, valid argument, direct and indirect proof, predicates and quantifiers

Chapter 5: Sets and Counting (Sections 1-7)
    Topics covered: Sets, unions and intersections, subsets, complements, the inclusion-exclusion principle, Venn diagrams, the multiplication principle, permutations and combinations, the binomial theorem

Chapter 6: Probability (Sections 1-6)
    Topics covered: Probability, experiments, outcomes, events, sample spaces, assignment of probabilities, odds, calculating probabilities, conditional probability and independence, tree diagrams

Chapter 7: Statistics (Sections 1-6)
    Topics covered: Frequency tables, charts, histograms, medians, quartiles, box plots, probability distributions, binomial trials, mean, expected value, variance, standard deviation, normal distributions

Chapter 10: The Mathematics of Finance (Sections 1 and 3)
    Topics covered: Interest, amortization of loans
